Wiring MSL6000 5U, two LTO4 and two NSR e1200-320
First, sorry for my bad english.
I have a new MSL6000 with two drives LTO4, and two NSR1200-320 FC 4GB.
I want to configure it to get the most high performace than i can with this hardware.
The MSL have a Controller card with two scsi connectors.
The NSR have two scsi connectors. The other too.
And the drives LTO4 have 2 scsi connector too.
The documentation don┬┤t show how connect two LTO, and two NSR in a 5U MSL. Only shows in a 10U MSL.
How i have to Wiring this?
I try to make and example but is very difficult in plain text :D
Thanks a lot.

Re: Wiring MSL6000 5U, two LTO4 and two NSR e1200-320
NSR #1, SCSI Port #1 connects to MSL Controller Card SCSI Port #1
MSL Controller Card SCSI Port #2 gets a terminator
NSR #1, SCSI Port #2 connects to LTO Tape Drive #1, SCSI Port #1
LTO Tape Drive #1, SCSI Port #2 gets a terminator
NSR #2, SCSI Port #1 connects to LTO Tape Drive #2, SCSI Port #1
LTO Tape Drive #2, SCSI Port #2 gets a terminator
NSR #2, SCSI Port #2 gets a terminator
Assuming you have redundant Fabrics, each NSR's Fibre Channel connection would go to a switch port on a different fabric.

Re: Wiring MSL6000 5U, two LTO4 and two NSR e1200-320
1) NSR #1, SCSI Port #1 connects to MSL Controller Card SCSI Port #1
2) MSL Controller Card SCSI Port #2 gets a terminator
3) NSR #1, SCSI Port #2 connects to LTO Tape Drive #1, SCSI Port #1
4) LTO Tape Drive #1, SCSI Port #2 gets a terminator
5) NSR #2, SCSI Port #1 connects to LTO Tape Drive #2, SCSI Port #1
6) LTO Tape Drive #2, SCSI Port #2 gets a terminator
The fotography is here:

Its correct?
Thanks a lot.
NSR #2, SCSI Port #2 gets a terminato

Re: Wiring MSL6000 5U, two LTO4 and two NSR e1200-320
There are 2 things which shall be followed.
1) Single Drive on BUS
2) Termination always on the Drive
In your case this shall seems like that :
NSR1->Library Controller->Drive0->Terminator
NSR2->Drive1->Terminator

Re: Wiring MSL6000 5U, two LTO4 and two NSR e1200-320
Marks tell me that i have to put 3 terminators.
The wiring is like i have under test. But if i connect the serial port of the FC 1 card, i can not mapping the 2 drives. Only sees one to map it.
Thanks a lot.

Re: Wiring MSL6000 5U, two LTO4 and two NSR e1200-320
I'd advise you to do it "my way" as this is the recommended "Best Practice" from HP.
You can also check the EBS Design Guide for more advices about configuring SAN and Libraries. You can find the EBS Design Guide here:
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c00775232/c00775232.pdf
I'm not sure if it's updated with pictures of Connecting 2 x LTO 4 Drives with 2 x NSR, but I'm sure there is a picture for LTO 3 Drives, which can be used on one NSR. Your cabling must be similar to that show theree, but just using one more NSR and attacht the second Drive on the second NSR.
Regards
Ivan

Re: Wiring MSL6000 5U, two LTO4 and two NSR e1200-320
it's right that the NSR has and Supports 2 SCSI BUSes, but the newest HP recommendations are : "Never Terminate on the Library Controller". That's why one of the BUSes on each NSR in this case shall stay free and the Library controller shall be connected on the the BUS with one of the Drives.
