StoreOnce 5200 - Configuration Backup

Hi,

I'm trying to do a backup of the StoreOnce configuration.  I found articles saying you need to log into the cli and run commands to do this, but my admin account will not let me log in via putty and I've found forum posts saying cli access is disabled on the newer generation appliances.

Is there any way for an admin to backup the configuration now?

Any assistance appreciated!

Tom

Re: Query: StoreOnce 5200 - Configuration Backup

I looked at the guide and ti says I should be able to connect via ssh to the cli using an admin user account - I can't, as I mentioned in my first post, I believe this functionality has been disabled in recent models.  User here confirms: https://community.hpe.com/t5/storeonce-backup-storage/accessing-a-storeonce-cli-via-ssh/td-p/7082450

I'm looking to find how to backup the StoreOnce configuration, I'm not fussed about how I acheive it...

Any assitance appreciated,

Cheers

Tom

Re: Query: StoreOnce 5200 - Configuration Backup

Hi,

the CLI is not completely removed, but reduced to an "Initialisation Console".

The username is console and the Password is set on the main menu: Settings> Security >Console Password

But you can only set the IP Address.

I see no option for Backup and Restore of the configuration and never need it.

In case of a completely Dead, a replacement System is Setup in less than an hour.

(Faster or Equal than any Restore procedure)

@Cali Thanks for your reply.

I can assure you that recreating what we have is going to take longer than an hour....which is why a backup would of been useful.  I do find it odd that they removed the capability of doing the configuration backup when it was there previously

Re: StoreOnce 5200 - Configuration Backup

Hi, Tom

Quick Restore (QR) is the process of restoring / installing the StoreOnce software The main difference from Gen3 is that the QR process includes attempting to save and restore the system configuration from the existing installation, including preserving customer data.
Note1: it is not risk free, so a QR should only be done as a last attempt when all other approaches have failed.
Note2: If there is no storage configured and a QR is performed (i.e. on a new install that has been messed up and so has no storage configured) then the configuration and licenses are lost.
A copy of the license can usually be found on the OS disk and Storage disk, but it can only be found on the Storage disks if the storage has been configured.
Note3: The QR process relies on a successful CBR (Configuration Backup and Restore) backup, this makes it possible to re-apply previous settings and reconnect to the previous stores after the QR.

Hope the above information is clear.

Re: StoreOnce 5200 - Configuration Backup

Hi,

That's sounds great- but how do I do a "CBR (Configuration Backup and Restore) backup"?

Kind regards,

Tom

Hi,
G4 system are designed in such way that you don't need to do (Configuration Backup and Restore)
BUT if you un configure the storage and if you try to QR then all the config will be lost, and you will have to reconfigure everything

Re: StoreOnce 5200 - Configuration Backup

Forgive me if I'm missing something, but are saying you can no longer backup the configuration of the appliance?

Kind regards,

Tom
