Storeonce+Veeam

Hi guys,

im planning to create multiple repository inside my catalyst store on my Storeonce. In the HPE referrence configuration Guide it has bolted that we must use the veeam powershell to do so,in the example command instead of the storeonce IP it has used FQDN.i wa wondering if using FQDN is mandatory or we can stick to the IP instead?

P.S: is it necessary to create FQDN for the SToreonce if we are using it COFC only?

regards,
LB.

Re: Query: Storeonce+Veeam

Hi,

the link you have posted is not working. i tried searching the name , but i only find a cli referrence guide which is for 2019. Apperently Storeonce Gen4 CLI has been disabled by HPE.is that true?

P.s: is FQDN name mandatory for us to creat multiple repository inside a store?

Re: Query: Storeonce+Veeam

Hello,

you mean this: KB2987: How to Use Multiple Backup Repositories Pointing to a Single Catalyst Store (veeam.com)

And yes, in newer Versions, there is no more CLI for StoreOnce.

Re: Query: Storeonce+Veeam

Hi Cali,

thats exactly what i mean. instead of the FQDN , can i use the Ip address or the FC identifier in COFC? or i have to join the storeonce to domain and can use only FQDN?

P.S: im using storeonce as COFC, i have not yet joined it to domain(because there was no point)

Re: Query: Storeonce+Veeam

I always add the StoreOnce with IP and not FQDN.
But you wrote about COFC and COFC uses the DeviceID and no IP.

IP is only used by COE.
I always use COE, because it is faster and not so complex to setup.

Check this very good White Paper: HPE Reference Configuration for Veeam Backup & Replication version 12 with HPE StoreOnce and HPE StoreEver

Re: Query: Storeonce+Veeam

@Cali i meant the instruction to create the repository, i think you misunderstood adding the storeonce in VEEAM.

i have created a catalyst store(200TB) inside Storeonce ---> created 2 repositories inside that store and add it to Veeam Backup repositories through VEEAM PowerShell. there is one thing which bothers me,in the command to create repositories in the VEEAM Powershell there was no parameter to set the SIZE. Now inside veeam backup repositories, the repositories that i created each show 200TB ,which mean 400TB combined, however they are in a single 200TB Store. i am afraid how Veeam would react or handle this , this seem like overprovisioning. Should i be worried that used capacity might try to surpass the real catalyst store capacity?

Re: Storeonce+Veeam

I'm running Veeam 11 and right now my primary repository is a traditional Windows NAS. I need to upgrade it and I got a pitch for StoreOnce. We're a small shop and right now on the NAS my total space used with retention is about 15TB, so we're not huge

Is anyone else using one and are you happy with it? One criticism I've heard is that restores are slow due to rehydration, but that info may be a bit old.

Re: Query: Storeonce+Veeam

@ledvan please describe why you decided to use this scheme - Multiple Backup Repositories Pointing to a Single Catalyst Store?
How many Catalyst stores does your StoreOnce Backup System serve and what is their size? What is the total capacity of your StoreOnce device? What model of StoreOnce device is used in your case?

The title of the article (https://www.veeam.com/kb2987)  on setting up this solution indicates the limitation and risks that the user assumes.  "However, due to the lack of folders concept on StoreOnce, such configuration may result in Veeam B&R metadata inconsistency, causing backup data corruption."

This is a serious enough remark for the backup system administrator.

Re: Storeonce+Veeam

@mukhalaniI think you are being offered an entry-level device based on the total amount of data stored, taking into account the backup policy applied. Usually, vendor representatives perform device sizing based on the data you provide about the backup policy and recovery time requirements.
My Restore Predictions:

Negative - 50% of the backup speed of this data
Positive - 70-80% of the backup speed of this data.

Try to request a proof of concept (POC) for offered StoreOnce Device.

Re: Query: Storeonce+Veeam

@yilmazaydin

please describe why you decided to use this scheme - Multiple Backup Repositories Pointing to a Single Catalyst Store? better deduplication ratio + seperate replication job between storeonces per repository (we have 2)

What is the total capacity of your StoreOnce device?   1PB

What model of StoreOnce device is used in your case?  5660

How many Catalyst stores does your StoreOnce Backup System serve and what is their size? 4(each 200TB)

* 200TB of capacity will remain unconfigured

@ledvan It looks like a very thoughtful solution .

Thanks for the clarification.
