5406zl and j4858b & j4859b gbics
We have 2 new 5406zl's that fail bootup with our j4858b(sx) & j4859b (lx) gbics. The sx gets a "unsupported transciever " message in event log and port flashes, the lx gets "must be a revision B" message and port flashes. The Fw is K.11.33. Well they are rev. B! We get all HP parts thru "Prefered Partners" so if these are the "counterfiet gbics" that I'm reading about then who can we trust to order us the real deal????? These gbics work in our other units 5308 and 9308 that have FW rev;s of e.10.04 and 7.7.01 respectively. Not sure if later fw would cause them to go bonkers too? Anyway, this is a HUGE problem for us as we were going to transfer our old gbics from 9308's to these 5406zl's without having to buy new!!!! Anyone else having any issues like this?
If I was doing any better, I'd be puking blood!

Re: 5406zl and j4858b & j4859b gbics
I mistated myself on this. It appears that the j4858b and j4859b's were from a new order, so they could be counterfiets but were from a prefered provider. But, when we ordered the 5406zl we told salesperson that we planned on using our gbics from 9308's and nothing was said. I am sure they are Rev. A's which appears aren't supported on these devices which puts us in a bind due to we were going to transfer 64 of them! Also, one other note the new j4859bs work in the 2626-pwr devices with latest fw no problem.

Re: 5406zl and j4858b & j4859b gbics
Hi Ed,
With the 2600's when using these same rev B GBIC's, have you checked the event log on the switch?
With the 2600's they can dectect a 3rd party GBIC's but will still allow them to function, whereas the 5400's will disale them.
If the event log in the 2600's shows some error then it's likely they are non-genuine. If there is no error then I think you should call HP support to discuss.
