Apply MAC address as a 802.1x login for 3Com 4500

Hi,

According to manual of 3Com 4500 seems support MAC address as a login by 802.1x.  Is that correct and any example available?

Thanks!

This is supported using the port-security feature and mac-authentication, you do not need to use a local database of MAC addresses and can, of course, use a RADIUS authentication server to approve or deny particular MAC addresses.

This has nothing to do with 802.1X authentication, which just refers to the EAPOL exchange between the supplicant (client) and the authenticator (switch), but 802.1X and MAC authentication can be combined in various ways on a port using port-security with both deferring to the RADIUS authentication server.

I suggest that you look at http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-GB/winserverNAP/thread/ca05e8a3-6971-4e64-8135-0a39a38b6bb4 for some reference.
