I inherented an AA978A, 2/16v san switch. I can not get any output from the console (9600,8,n,1 no flow or xon/xoff, tried 115200 also) not the ethernet port. I have two power cords plugged in, it does the post and all LED's are green. I used a xover cable and linked to the ethernet no problem. After setting my ip's on the nic (using a windows box) try to log into the internal webserver at 10.77.77.77 and it times out.
All of these settings could have been changed by the previous user, its out of warranty and I dont want to call it bad if it can be restored to default settings. Is there a way to reset defaults on the switch?

Solution
I found this previous thread about resetting to defaults, but it looks as though you still need to make that initial connection to the switch:

The installation guide says you need to use a straight-through serial cable.
If you're still stuck, I'd recommend you re-ask in the SAN forum, or contact HP directly.

Re: HP StorageWorks SAN switch 2/16V - reset defaults ?!
Thanks for the info. Using the correct cable I got output from the console port, however the default name / passwords do not work so I assume they were changed by the last user.
So if you have a 2/16v thats password protected and defaults no not work, the only option is call HP and get new firmware.
