When setting up alerts - e-mail messages there is a substitution list to choose from. The $dns and $mac don't seem to work at all. The $dns is substituted with "Discovery" and the other one $mac is not substituted at all in the e-mail messages sent. Any ideas?

Solution
Hi jamesps,
Some of the substitutions are only valid when the event that triggers the alert is a network trap, rather than an event generated by PCM itself. From the "Discovery" string that you're seeing it sounds like perhaps the event that is triggering your alert is one of PCM's internally generated events - something like a device being discovered or going unreachable for example. If that's the case then there is no MAC address associated with the triggering event and the "source" of the event is PCM's discovery subsystem.
Does this match with what you're seeing?

Re: ProCurve Manager - Alerts
That's exactly what I am trying to set up these alerts for: devices unreachable, reachable.
Is there a way around this, including the DNS name into the e-mail alert message?
Thanks,
james
