Effect of frequent power cuts

I support several 2600 series switches in a rural school with frequent power outages (roughly monthly).  The power supply is surge-protected.  Will these power cuts eventually harm the switches (do they require UPS to protect the switches?)

Re: Effect of frequent power cuts

Hi there

Warranty FAQ (http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&objectID=c02593802), question 14:

Does my warranty coverage apply to damage caused by power surges, power outages, or similar events?
No. When a power surge or power outage occurs, or when power is restored after an outage, your HP Networking product might be subjected to current and/or voltage that is outside of the published environmental specifications for the product. For example, high transient spikes in voltage can occur as power is restored after an outage by your electric utility company, which can result in damage to the circuitry or the power supply in your product. Since your HP warranty does not apply to damage or defects caused by the product being operated outside of the usage parameters stated in the user documentation that shipped with the product, such as the voltage range, this kind of damage is excluded from coverage (see the warranty statement for more information). You should contact your insurance carrier or your Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) vendor to see if power surge- or power outage-related damage is covered under applicable insurance policies.
