SFP+ uplink down after firmware upgrade on JL259A (2930F)

I have 2 2930F (JL259A). The uplink between the two is 2x SFP+ in a trunk. This worked fine with firmware 16.04.0014 on one and 16.06.0006 on the other. But after I did a firmware upgrade on the first from 16.04.0014 to 16.09.003 the link is down and does not come back. What can be the issue?

Hi, please share here sanitized configurations of both involved switches...generally speaking LACP/Non-Protocol based ports aggregations should not suffer disruptions related to differences of software versions.

Re: SFP+ uplink down after firmware upgrade on JL259A (2930F)

Here is the configuration of switch01 before the update. When it all worked. The trunk on the second is identical. VLAN's also. And it's the trunk that is down after the update of the second switch.

Re: SFP+ uplink down after firmware upgrade on JL259A (2930F)

Can you share sanitized output of show tech transceivers Command? Are you using DAC Cables on SFP Ports? IIRC the Aruba JL259A 2930F-24G-4SFP Switch doesn't support ANY 10Gbps Transceivers/DAC...so...what is going on? but...more importantly...how was it possible a successfull connection at 10G IF both involved JL259A are not able to support SFP+/DAC Cables (independently by running software)?

Yes. These are DAC cables.

Re: SFP+ uplink down after firmware upgrade on JL259A (2930F)

Pretty strange...JL259A doesn't support SFP+/DAC Cables...so it doesn't support 10Gbps Transceivers...only 1Gbps (it means SFP Transceivers listed in its QuickSpecs).

Maybe newer system software versions fix (strictly enforce) the above restriction avoiding users to use SFP+/DAC Cables improperly on a platform marketed to not support them.

https://support.hpe.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=emr_na-c05235854

This article lists the option parts. And it includes the DAC J9281D cables. So why do you conclude the DAC is not supported?

Re: SFP+ uplink down after firmware upgrade on JL259A (2930F)

Because I've checked both Aruba 2930F Switch Series QuickSpecs and HPE PartSurfer (for JL259A)...see here:
https://partsurfer.hpe.com/Search.aspx?SearchText=JL259A&SearchText=JL259A
The page you linked is the general page for the entire Aruba 2939F Switch Series, you must go to the specific supported options for SKU JL259A to understand exactly what is supported and what's not on that specific model.

Re: SFP+ uplink down after firmware upgrade on JL259A (2930F)

Also strange to see the uplink was showing 10G (!) before the upgrade. While the JL259A is SFP only. Maybe better stay on the older firmware to get this feature
