Disconnected cloud management for high-security, network-isolated environments
By Bryan Thompson, Vice President, Product Management, Private Cloud, Hewlett Packard Enterprise
HPE introduces disconnected management for private cloud and block storage
A secure, flexible, reliable cloud that includes storage has been an integral part of operations in organizations all over the world. A cloud operating model brings agility to innovate and deliver new services, along with efficiencies obtained by quickly extracting critical insights from data.
But what if you’re in an organization where the very nature of your operations or the regulatory environment you’re in restricts connectivity? What if the country or geography you operate in defines or restricts how and where you operate?
With a long history of working with customers across the globe that have these unique challenges, we’re innovating our private cloud and storage portfolios and announcing new offerings for organizations operating in these highly regulated environments where the utmost control, data security, and digital sovereignty are required. These offerings include fully managed private cloud and block storage solutions with disconnected management. These air-gapped solutions are ideal for any organization that must adhere to strict data, technology, and operations requirements with no external internet connection, such as military organizations, federal governments, critical infrastructure providers, and financial institutions.
A secure and fully disconnected cloud
Disconnected management options within HPE GreenLake for Private Cloud Enterprise allow you to deploy a full self-service IaaS experience isolated within your secure data center or ultra-secure facility, offering complete transparency around security while retaining comprehensive functionality.
This means you can modernize classified data centers, keep your workloads where you need them, and securely run your mission-critical apps and data with virtual machine and bare metal services in your isolated or disconnected environments while leveraging common services like identity and access management and FinOps tools to avoid tool and process fragmentation.
Until now, many customers have had to run complex, expensive private clouds comprised of separate contracts with multiple vendors to meet their strict security needs. As a result, internal teams have become siloed, and legacy systems have fallen behind industry standards.
These organizations require cloud services to run on premises in their data centers without external internet connections, leveraging only local networks. These unique requirements cannot be compromised as they support critical infrastructure and mission-critical applications that typically contain highly confidential information. A compromise to their security could have a devastating effect on an organization’s ability to do business and potentially have extensive impacts on public health or safety. What’s become clear is that these organizations need a public cloud experience and capabilities that adhere to regulatory mandates and strict security standards.
Key challenges for organizations that require a disconnected private cloud
A secure, scalable, highly available block storage solution for disconnected environments
For customers in highly regulated industries requiring on-premises storage without internet connectivity, HPE is introducing a new block storage solution that helps meet the requirements of data sovereignty and confidentiality, protecting against external cyber threats. It is built on HPE Alletra Storage MP B10000 and data services delivered on HPE GreenLake, which provides a cloud-like experience and simplifies IT operations with on-demand scalability, self-service provisioning, and automation through APIs. It also helps customers modernize their storage infrastructure with a modern technology stack featuring high performance, continuous data availability, and seamless scalability of HPE Alletra Storage MP for mission-critical workloads. Customers can purchase this block storage solution for disconnected environments standalone or as part of their HPE Private Cloud deployment.
Delivering a sovereign cloud through our partners, powered by HPE GreenLake
Additionally, these new solutions enable qualified partners to deliver a sovereign cloud built on HPE GreenLake private cloud, with cloud computing services that are exclusively owned, controlled, and operated within a particular country or defined region. The solution provides a secure, reliable computing infrastructure that can support critical services and protect sensitive data from being shared outside the sovereign boundary, accessed by unauthorized personnel, or exposed to external cyberattacks.
It provides a comprehensive architecture that supports a compliant platform incorporating a federated attestation and can incorporate dataspaces within the confines of an on-prem solutions, as well as the ability to exchange these with public cloud resources. Trusted, accredited HPE service providers offer full platform management, ensuring the necessary layer of operational sovereignty and full cloud control.
The need for a trusted, secure computing environment has never been greater. Industries across the board are rethinking their public cloud strategy and are now working towards a future that is hybrid by design. The financial services industry must address data privacy concerns regarding identities, payments, and related data, which are most suitable for keeping workloads within a sovereign boundary. The public sector must safeguard large amounts of citizen and operational data, as well as workloads around critical infrastructure and national security. The pharmaceuticals sector is filled with research and development as well as patent-related sensitive data. Healthcare has regulations in place to protect patient data. Many more industries and use cases can benefit from sovereign solutions.
HPE GreenLake cloud continues to revolutionize how regulated environments harness the power of the cloud by delivering cloud capabilities in disconnected and sovereign environments, ensuring transparency and control over cloud resources. HPE GreenLake empowers organizations to embrace the benefits of the cloud while ensuring compliance, security, and confidentiality. With HPE GreenLake, regulated industries can confidently navigate the digital landscape, unlocking the true potential and benefits of cloud computing.
