What is rapid migration tool?

Rapid migration tool is designed to simplify and accelerate the migration process for enterprise workloads. The solution is built for HPE GreenLake for Private Cloud Enterprise (PCE) and has the capability to scale to any other HPE solutions to perform virtual machine migrations. Rapid migration tool provides a comprehensive suite of services that includes automated discovery, a self-service portal, analysis and automation, migration checks, target build, and much more. This is the first version of rapid migration tool, designed for migrating virtual machines in a VMware environment to HPE GreenLake PCE or any other VMware destination.

The workflow shown in the diagram below depicts the high-level process of migration that is implemented in this automated solution, which enables the transfer of VMware virtual machines from the current environment to the HPE GreenLake aaS infrastructure. The phases of Discover, Assessment, Migration, and Monitoring make up the entire operation.

The four phases of migration

Rapid migration tool has four phases; each is designed with an industry-standard toolset with the aim of simplifying and streamlining the migration process:

1. Asset and Application Discovery: In this phase, the solution automatically discovers all assets and applications that need to be migrated. This includes virtual machines applications.
2. Design and Plan: In this phase, the solution analyses the data collected in the discovery phase to create a customized migration plan. The plan includes workload placement and migration sequence, and it also gets a migration feasibility check done.
3. Migrate: In this phase, the solution automates the migration process and helps in VMware migration.
4. Reporting and Analytics: In this phase, the solution provides real-time reporting and analytics to help organizations monitor the progress of their migration project.
