Hybrid cloud simplified: A podcast intro to HPE GreenLake hybrid cloud management services
The hybrid cloud strategy is becoming pervasive, but it brings with it a rise in complexity.
I met with HPE podcaster Calvin Zito to talk about hybrid cloud managed services from HPE GreenLake Managed Services and how we deliver a simplified, consistent, fully automated experience. Check out the Around the IT Block podcast episode above.
Itโs amazing how quickly the concept of hybrid cloud has become pervasive in IT conversations. Not so long ago, many businesses were going all-in on โcloud-firstโ, often achieving impressive results. But as cloud strategies have matured, considerations around latency, security, and compliance, together with the sheer volume and gravity of data, have propelled the hybrid model. Add to that the groundswell of data at the edge, and itโs not hard to see why weโre in a hybrid world for the foreseeable future.
Hybrid cloud and hybrid multi-cloud are powerful models, but they do involve some complexities. On the public cloud side, the user experience you get with AWS is different than what you get with, say, Azure or Google. Individual lines of business sometimes set up cloud infrastructure for their own projects, creating silos that you donโt have insight into. Your on-premises environments are disparate, too; youโve got your datacenter, your edge infrastructure, and maybe some assets in colocation arrangements. It can be hard to find the time and the skills you need to keep everything running smoothly.
For these and many other reasons, businesses are increasingly choosing a managed services approach for hybrid cloud. In the podcast above, I described some of the advantages that HPE GreenLake managed cloud services deliver, including:
1. A single view of your hybrid IT estate. HPE GreenLake Central is your primary access platform for all of the cloud services that youโre running, as well as managed service offerings from HPE. Itโs a unified, integrated experience โ a single dashboard for operational information. It gives you visibility into all of your accounts, no matter where they're running, whether itโs in a public hyperscaler, on-premises, at the edge or in a colo. It gives you insights into the performance and health of your environments, as well as alerts about preventative maintenance that needs to be done.
I mentioned in the podcast above that HPE was in the process of converging HPE GreenLake Central with Aruba Central. We have now accomplished that, adding 120,000 Aruba networking customers to the platform โ see our press release HPE GreenLake edge-to-cloud platform delivers greater choice and simplicity with unified experience.
2. Built-in scalability and proactive readiness to add infrastructure as needed. Similarly to the way you can do it in a public cloud, you can easily add capacity, or scale it down, as your business needs change. We proactively work with you to build the environment as it goes. So if youโre running at 85% of your storage or compute power and itโs time to add capacity for a new project, we can help you with that. As a result, you avoid both over-provisioning and the risk of unplanned downtime.
3. The right support from the right people with the right skills, so you can concentrate on growing the business. Automated remediation enables us to prevent many failures even before our customers are aware that there might be an issue. But beyond that, expert support from HPE takes the traditional, mundane running of the infrastructure โ patching, updating, ensuring that everythingโs healthy and performing correctly โ off of your shoulders. HPE has deep expertise and experience in managing complex environments. Offloading the heavy lifting to us enables you to redeploy your teams to projects that add growth to the business.
