The HPE Global Center of Excellence in AI and Data: Unlocking game-changing opportunities

Announced just one year ago, the HPE Global CoE for AI & Data has quickly become a powerful resource for organizations seeking to realize the benefits of artificial intelligence and data-first modernization.

HPE-Center-of-Excellence-for-AI-and-Data-HPE-Services.pngWe’re living in a truly world-changing era, with the rise of artificial intelligence and advanced data technologies. And HPE is right there at the forefront, helping organizations make the most of incredible new opportunities.

Here’s how I put it last year when we announced the opening of our Global Center of Excellence in AI and Data: “We see increasing demand from our customers for expertise to help them use AI and data analytics. We are building a team of people who can drive innovation with new AI and data use cases, learn and collaborate with team members and HPE partners, and further develop their careers in an exciting and fast-growing area.” (See: HPE Opens Global Center of Excellence in Artificial Intelligence and Data in Spain to Help Customers Harness the Power of their Data.)

As we celebrate the first anniversary of the HPE AI & Data Global CoE in Las Rozas, Madrid, I wanted to share some of our achievements, and perhaps help spark some ideas for how your business can tap into these transformative technologies. Here are just three of our top innovation projects from a very busy year:

  • Implementing a telemetry data platform for Frontier, the world’s first exascale computer. Frontier is a new supercomputer built by HPE for the U.S. Department of Energy’s Oak Ridge National Laboratory. It is the first supercomputer to break the exascale barrier and the world’s fastest supercomputer, according to the Top500 list of the world’s most powerful supercomputers (see: Frontier is the #1 Supercomputer on the Top500). The HPE AI & Data Global CoE was involved in implementing a telemetry platform with the scale and performance needed for Frontier’s staggering capabilities.
  • Helping Carnegie Clean Energy implement a model to capture energy from ocean waves. HPE is supporting Carnegie Clean Energy in the EuropeWave Programme, a competitive European program to advance wave energy. Hewlett Packard Labs developed a reinforcement learning model to maximize the energy capture from the wave energy converter. The HPE Global CoE for AI & Data worked on the integration, deployment, and testing of the model, ensuring that it would be ready to perform real-time inference during the wave tank testing campaign. This initiative is an excellent example of using AI to drive sustainability efforts.
  • Helping Maserati MSG Racing to develop AI use cases. We collaborated with this FIA Formula E racing team and HPE experts based in France to develop AI use cases to help the team improve its performance on track. (Read more about HPE’s partnership with Maserati MSG Racing: Racing Academy: Unlocking Strategy with HPE).

In addition, the HPE Global CoE for AI & Data is contributing to develop solutions and demos with HPE’s and partners’ technologies. Here are just a few of the technologies we have worked with, just to give you an idea of the sheer breadth of our activities and expertise:

HPE Swarm Learning: a privacy-preserving, decentralized machine learning solution to improve accuracy and reduce bias in AI models.

HPE Machine Learning Development Environment: a platform that removes the complexity and cost associated with machine learning model development.

Pachyderm software: solutions that automate reproducible machine learning pipelines for large-scale AI projects.

DECIDATA solutions integrated with HPE Ezmeral Software: DECIDATA is a business analytics and AI provider that brings strong cross-sector insights and offers a unique value proposition focused on applying AI and analytics to business processes.

Intel AI optimizations and Intel Advanced Matrix Extensions: Intel AMX is a new built-in accelerator that improves the performance of deep-learning training and inference on the CPU. We’re working with Intel to showcase these solutions not only in terms of the performance improvements they offer, but also in terms of their value for sustainable AI.

And this is only the start! We are very excited about what’s next for our Global CoE for AI & Data as we continue to help customers discover new applications of these game-changing technologies.
