With this many disks I was thinking keep it simple, avoid potential problems with disk failures, and use RAID 6 on the SAN....I know with next-day disk replacement RAID 5 would be possible too but somewhat riskier while waiting for the new disk to arrive. Does anyone know where or how I could find out if the 2040 will become certified for VMware 7.0?? Regarding the controllers difference between 1050 and 2050, where can I find out about these differences?? First I have to be able to even buy the new controllers, this will be next year sometime or even the year after if I must wait that long. The documentation is good but it mentions changing the array enclosure. What is the difference between the array enclosure and the chassis?? My understanding is that only the controllers need to be changed and the part containing the disks does not change. Are these cables inside the chassis?? Are these necessary for an iSCSI SAN?? Thank you....what do you think would happen if I have one group of 15k SAS drives and one smaller group of 7.5k SATA drives?? Would people notice anything?? I'm thinking it should be possible if different kinds of drives are installed per node, that it should be easy and possible to enable the AO Adaptive Optimization tiering so the VSA itself would see the two physical RAID groups together as one storage and therefore move data around as necessary??
