Connecting 2 v1910 24-G switches without creating a loop

Description:

Datacenter provides 2 internet access drops. 

1 drop goes to switch A - 100mbps at the datacenter switch

1 drop goes to switch B - 100mbps at the datacenter switch

vlans switch A

  vlan0001 = mgmt

  vlan0004 = public access

  vlan0008 = internal network (various storage etc)

vlans switch B

  vlan0002 = mgmt

  vlan0004 = public access

  vlan0008 = internal network (various storage etc)

We have 1 cable from each switch in the mgmt vlan going back to a VPN appliance. The vlans are 001 & 002 on these switches because it created a loop if they were both on the same vlan.

The servers connected to the public ports using vlan0008 all have bonded nics in active-failover mode. 

the problem we're running into is if a nic on one server fails over and starts using swtich B, all traffic from switch A must traverse over the datacenter drop (100mbps) to get over to switch B. We end up losing gigabit connectivity since the drops are capped at 100mbps.

How can we link these switches together so allow traffic to pass between both switches without going over the datacenter drops & also without creating a network loop?

We would need a little more info about your IP addressing and routes, but at a glance I would say you need to:

Stop spanning VLANs 4 & 8 to your provider, link the two switches, configure a default route on the switches to point to your provider.

Alternatively, trade in your 1910s and get something stackable, like the 2920 or the 3800.

You'll get a *way* better result with stackable switches.
