General setup question (1810g)
Hi all,
I'm setting up my first home network, and I'm a bit confused on how to do it all.
I assume it goes like this;
internet
|
|
|
modem (cisco 877) [IP ADDRESS 192.168.0.1]
|
|
|
switch (hp procurve 1810g-24) [IP ADDRESS 192.168.0.2]
| |
| |
| |
my home PCs (2 pcs)
[IP ADDRESS 192.168.0.3] and
[IP ADDRESS 192.168.0.4]
questions;
a) the 1810g has no "uplink" port for the modem. Does the modem just plug into any of the ports? If so, is it using a standard cable, or do I need some kind of cross-over network cable?
b) when setting up the network connection, would the default gateway be the modem or the switch?
thanks
P.S. This thread has been moved from Switches, Hubs, Modems (Legacy ITRC forum) to Web and Unmanaged. -HP Forum Moderator

Re: General setup question (1810g)
a)You don't need an "UPLINK" port, you can connect to any port on the switch, using standard cable.
b)the default gateway will be the modem's ip
Regards.
