HP 6110 on W2k or W2k3

Is it possible to configure the HP6110 on Windows 2k or 2k3 and have the software function. The product says it is supported on Windows 2000, but HP neglects to define the difference between Pro. & Server.

Coop:

The only HP6110 I can find is the Compaq Presario 6110ap or tc. Is that what we're talking about?

Craig:

Why didnt you say so. ;--)

There is new firmware for the printer and a new drier (as of 11-11-2003) here:

In addition to that new drier, there's also a new driver. :^)

Re: HP 6110 on W2k or W2k3

That is what I downloaded. It says that it is not supported on Windows 2000 server. The HP documentation says that it supports Windows 2000, but HP neglects to inform everyone that they only mean Windows 2000 Pro. I feel that this is really misleading and should be clarified before people make the effort to acquire this product.

Did you try updating the firmware first before you tried the driver? Did the firmware upgrade fail too?

Re: HP 6110 on W2k or W2k3

Have you tried any other USB devices on this system? Did they work OK? Are you confident the USB cable is OK?

Have you installed the Critical and Recommended updates from www.windowsupdate.com? I know the documentation says the 6110 is not supported on Windows server software and I understand why NT Server would not work because of lack of USB support but Windows 2000 Server really should work unless the HP driver blocks it somehow.

One more thing...did you try downloading the driver ONLY and installing it, rather than the package?

Re: HP 6110 on W2k or W2k3

It works fine as a printer, but the OfficeJet software will not install on W2k server. The firmware upgrade will not complete because the software is not installed.

Re: HP 6110 on W2k or W2k3

Hey:

Sorry I misunderstood. I thought you couldn't print. I think this is about the best you can hope for. If you really want to upgrade the firmware, you'd probably have to install the printer on another non-server machine, then move it back.

Sorry!

Re: HP 6110 on W2k or W2k3

So, Are you saying that we have no recourse but to accept the misleading documentation or do you think the new firmware will change anything. Remember the software detects an OS problem, not a printer problem.

Craig:

I'm sure if I felt as if I had been misled, I'd feel as you do. If you've only recently purchased the 6110, perhaps HP would make a concession (money back, trade for another machine, etc.). It certainly can't hurt to call their Customer Service dept. and ask.

And No, I don't think upgrading the firmware will make this machine do what I think you want it to do.

Re: HP 6110 on W2k or W2k3

FYI...

I have the HP 6110 running on a W2k3 server without a problem. I am able to scan and print. I have had it installed on a W2K server and it worked fine there as well. The only thing I had to do is uninstall adobe prior to installing it.

How did you get it to install. I uninstalled adobe and the software still complains about incompatible O/S.

Re: HP 6110 on W2k or W2k3

I was having the same problem, but found a solution:

-Extract all the files from the original download
-Load autorun.inf in Notepad, scroll down a ways until you find the "Overide" (sic) parameter under "[SystemRequirements]" and change it from "No" to "Yes", then save.
-Run Setup.exe

Re: HP 6110 on W2k or W2k3

Is there just a driver for Windows 2003 so that it can be installed on the server to handle Terminal Clients logging in and printing to their local hp OfficeJet 6110?
I tried to modify the autorun.inf as described, but I imagine since I don't have the printer directly attached to the server, that is why hp's setup bombs.

I looked through all of the folders and none of the .inf files pull up in the Add Printer Driver | Have Disk area.

Help.

Re: HP 6110 on W2k or W2k3

OK, I guess I'm still missing something. ::grovels respectfully::

* 2k3 Std, latest hotfixes
* HP 6110 basic, v3.5.0 (3/18/04)
* uninstalled Adobe (Reader 5.1)
* extracted and edited Autorun.inf (override=yes)
* clients are XP pro laptops, with an aim to fax out, or at least print :)

Still the setup.exe only checks for disk space and quits, no error. What additionally do I need to do?

The catch here is that the printer is attached to a Hawking HPS12U (1 par, 2 usb), and I'd prefer to limit access as a server share, rather than a peer-to-peer share, though I'll fall back to that if I must. If the printer is incompatible with a USB printserver, then I'll give up, reluctantly.

Is the setup doing an early test to see if the printer is connected, and failing for that reason, silently? Or did this override "feature" get fixed in a version prior to this one?

Best regards...

Re: HP 6110 on W2k or W2k3

Larry:

I would connect the 6110 directly to the W2K3 server USB port and install the driver/software. Then I would move the printer to the print server and try changing the port within Printer properties to point to the right place.
