We want to install 46b / mssql 7.0 on IA64 MS-Window for IA64.
We want to know weather ia32 bit applications are supported on ia64 bit CPU with IA64 - bit processor.

Solution
I don't think this will work at all...
There is NO way that SQL 7.0 will even know how to use a 64-bit architecture since it was designed purely for 32-bit.
Also keep in mind that SQL 7.0 is old and now in "Extended support" period.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/912251
Go for a supported version like SQL 2005 64-bit for Itanium
http://www.microsoft.com/sql/editions/64bit/overview.mspx
Remember that IA64 focuses on security/fault tolerance/uptime compared to x64 that focuses on performance.
64-bit apps for IA64 are NOT compatible with 64-bit apps for x64 - remember that if you read just "64 bit" as that basically is not specific enough.
Further 64-bit vs 32-bit the main advantages of 64-bit comes with applications that need and use large amounts of RAM. If your SQL 7.0 is a small db with little RAM use it will actually run better on 32-bit servers.
Technically any 32-bit application will only be able to run on IA64 Windows via a 32-bit software emulation layer that has serious performance disadvantages. So, the recommendation is to use only native IA64 applications on the IA64 platform.
Cheers,
Rune

Re: IA64 support for ia32 applications on windows enviornment
" Technically any 32-bit application will only be able to run on IA64 Windows via a 32-bit software emulation layer that has serious performance disadvantages. So, the recommendation is to use only native IA64 applications on the IA64 platform. "
In the above string you mentioned abt
32-bit software emulation layer. Kindly suggest how do we procure this 32-bit software emmulation layer for IA64.
Our whole problem is we do not have ia64 compatiable version of SAP 46b mssql.
kindly suggest further.
Thanks and Regards,
