ML370 (G1) - Windows 2003 & System Management Homepage Inquiry...

Greetings,

I have successfully installed Windows Server 2003 on our ML370 (G1) server using the S/S 5.50 CD by Selecting Windows 2000 Server, configuring Array, etc, etc.

I'm online and everything seems functional. I've installed the Support Pack 7.30 for 2003 Server on this system and all went well, no errors. I rebooted server and logged into the System Management Homepage OK. However, on the homepage it lists the agents on the left column, but it doesn't show any status for these respective agents.

For example, when I click on the HP Storage Agent link on the left column, a pop-up box appears:

Content for this Integrated Agentis linked into the tabs and boxes on the right.

I don't have any boxes nor do I have any agent status on the main right window pane. I simply have "no failed/degraded items" under Overall System Status.

Also, the "System Model" field in the top right corner lists "unknown".

How can I get the status of all my agents...so I know if I have a degraded disk, or NIC problem, etc as I do on all my other servers?

Please advise, thanks!

Because WS03 was not supported by SS 5.5 (it came out way before WS03), you probably ended up without SNMP, or you may have SNMP and it is not configured properly. By default, WS03 has no community string and will only respond to localhost.

SNMP is installed on the server prior to Support Pack 7.30 installation. Can anything be done to report the hardware in System Management Homepage? If so, what steps and/or configurations are required?

Re: ML370 (G1) - Windows 2003 & System Management Homepage Inquiry...

One of the default settings in 2003 for SNMP, under security, is to have "accept SNMP packets from these hosts" selected. What I would recommend is to either change this to "accept SNMP packets from any host or add the loopback address (127.0.0.1) for the server. I'd also recommend, under the traps tab for SNMP, adding the loopback address as a trap destination.
The truth is out there, but I forgot the URL..

Re: ML370 (G1) - Windows 2003 & System Management Homepage Inquiry...

Stephen had the answer, however Terry and KOV also gave me insight into the problem/solution. Thank you all very much, I needed to add the following to the Accepted Community Names under the Security Tab in SNMP Service:

Public - READ ONLY
Private - READ CREATE

Once I did this, I followed the suggestions by Terry to add the local loopback as an accepted trap destination, etc, etc.

All in all, it now works. Thank you for your time and feedback!
