SCSI Controller Port 2 on ProLiant ML350 G4

Have a Sony sdt-9000 connected to this
onboard SCSI controller.. Lots of timeouts etc..
Is there a way to lower the speed of this controller ? Manag.Page shows speed FAST...
When I backup using veritas 10.0 using 512 byte blocks, it works but verrrry slow...
Changed drive, cables etc...
