Proliant 115 doesn't restart

Hello, we've got a proliant 115 running sbs2003 r2, on restart it's started showing disk read errors and not booting, needing to run thropugh teh recovery console and repair MBR.

Is this common and can I fix it?

Re: Proliant 115 doesn't restart

Hi Dan,
It depends on the errors.

IMHO, its not common; doesnt mean cant be fixed. If you have the OS cd... surely try the Repair in the recovery console.

Let us know.

:) Regards.

Re: Proliant 115 doesn't restart

Cheers for that, running the recovery console every time I restart seems analogous to "broken" hence I started asking questions.

I think it might be telling that it'll boot if it has a bootable CD in it, but you don't "hit any key to boot from CD", but without the CD it reports a cdrive read error.

Recovery console on every time you restart ?
Whoaa.... not at all normal.

I will recommend you to run a diagnostic on the HDD... could be FAILED>

I'm thinking that as well, but HP diagnostics say it's okay.

The event viewer intermittently throws up 1054 "can't find domain controller" which is a real pain, might this be related?

Re: Proliant 115 doesn't restart

It could be. What is the role of the server ?

However, If disconnected from the network, It still should boot normally.
