under disk management Healthy (Unknown Partition) and no drive letter assigned

hey all,
i've upgraded the OS from Windows Srv2000 to Windows Srv2003 on a CompaqML370 server which has Smart Array 532 Controller on it. after migrating to Windows Server 2003 i2m able to see partition C: but unable to access to partition D:. there was no problem with W2k. and the situtaion is like this there is no D drive under my computer directory but when i look to Disk management it indicates that the D:\ drive volume (this was in W2k not anymore) "Healthy (Unknown Partition)" status, but does not have an associated drive letter.i found a KB article 328520 and it also didn't help me. does anybody faced a problem like this before? What could be the solution to this problem. waiting for your kind helps. best regards.

Under disk management, did you try the following:

1. Right-click on the missing disk.
2. Select "Activate disk".

Re: under disk management Healthy (Unknown Partition) and no drive letter assigned

hi michael and jon,
the KB article didn't help me? the problem is : after migrating to WS03 the disk on Ml370 G2 is online but the second partition on the same disk is shown as healthy but unknown partition with no drive letter assigned to it. i've installed hp proliant adv system management controller driver latest version it also didnt solve out the problem. RAID1 is configured on the system. thnx.

Have you tried the tool as the article suggested to get to the data?

yes i did what the article says but it didn't help.i used a third party utility and saved my data on that partition but is there a known issue alert for Compaq ML370 G2 while upgrading from Windows 2000 Server to Windows Server 2003?

Re: under disk management Healthy (Unknown Partition) and no drive letter assigned

Hi,

have you done this
After you bring your previous FTDisk volumes online by using FTOnline, Microsoft recommends that you back up the data on those volumes, and then delete them. You can then convert the disks to Dynamic disks, re-create the volumes, and then restore the data

?

Michael

ps. in the article there is also a refernce to win2k

Did we ever ask if your second partition was previously set up as basic or dynamic?

Re: under disk management Healthy (Unknown Partition) and no drive letter assigned

thnx guys. i solved out the problem with the help of data recovery programs. but i'll keep on my search for this problem. Because it was really a strange situation. by the way the disc was basic before and after the installation so were the partitions.
