Win2K3, Multi-processors, Proliant 1600

I can install Windows 2003 on my proliant 1600 just fine. However, the Hardware Abstraction Layer (HAL) that is detected and installed is the "Standard PC" HAL, not an ACPI Multi-processor HAL, which is required for Multi-processors. How do I get my dual-cpus recognized in Windows 2003 Standard?

I would reboot and select F10 to get into the bios, then hit "control" + "A" to get into the advanced features. Select to configure the system and then "review and modify settings". Page down a couple of times and find the APIC setting and change it to "full table". The OS should be able to see the second processor then.

I put the SmartStart CD in, and run the System Configuration Utility. I see 5 steps, I go to "step 3: View or Edit details", and there is nothing about an APIC in there. I've looked everywhere for something to do with "APIC"--but nothing. What gives?

Sorry, not related to your question but have you managed to install Win 2003 drivers for the Proliant 1600 internal NIC? I'm not having much luck with setting up the NIC on 2003. Cheers

As to the dual-CPUs, here's another longshot. This only applies to Pentium II 1600s.

How did you guys get win2003 istalled on the proliant 1600? I tried several versions of smart start and smart start tells me I have to use version 5.5, but there is no option for win2k3.

Do a manual install with Smart Start 5.5 so it creates the diag partition (if you even care about having this installed). After that's created you can that just load W2K3 off the CD by booting it normally. After the OS is loaded you may need to install the Netelligent driver listed above to get net connectivity or you can use a newer NIC if available. Load the latest PSP 7.0 after you have completed the install of the OS to install all the other latest drivers and agents. It works great...

yep, I did that and I got it installed. Strangest thing though. Both on win2003 and win2000 it sees an intel 82371AB/EB PCI to USB universal host controller. I didnt think the proliant 1600 had any usb host controllers. Anyone else have that issue?
As far as the nic driver i am using the netelligent 10/100tx pci embedded UTP/AUI controller.
