Matching LUN ids and device names on XP?
Dear All
CONFIGURATION
Cluster – Oracle RAC
Volume Manager - ASM
HBA cards – Emulex
Server – HP C class Blades
Operating System – Red Hat 4 Update 5
Dual pathing – Emulex Multipulse
Array – XP12000 with fibre connectivity
BACKGROUND
I can’t find any documentation that specifically describes how to construct the cluster build described above. I’d be happier if there were some specific guidance. Our Oracle RAC DBA team have a requirement that the LUNs are all presented to all nodes with exactly the same name.
The difficulty here is to identify that each RAC linux device is being created on the same LUN on both nodes. With HP storage I can't see the LUN id from the server via a CLI – for cluster set up it is important you do this. For this particular configuration - the Multipulse outputs (see below) need to cross reference to the device names (see example further below).
[root@bl16 hbanyware]# ./hbacmd mpRoutes 50:06:0b:00:00:c2:62:36
MultiPulse Routes currently configured :
1. Route: 600508B4000708530000E00001DF0000
2. Route: 600508B4000708530000E00001E20000

18. Route: 600508B4000708530000E00002610000
19. Route: 600508B4000708530000E00002930000
The the disk names are in this format:-
brw-rw---- 1 root disk 8, 1 Nov 15 17:06 /dev/disk/by-path/pci-0000:10:00.0-fc-0x50001fe1500cb23c:0x0001000000000000-part1
Is each cluster device being created on the same LUN on both nodes? I could check this on XP storage if I could see (or cross reference) a LUN id from the server via a CLI.
QUESTIONS
* How do I cross reference Multipulse CLI output of devices with names in “/dev/disk/by-path” or “/dev/disk/by-uuid”?
* The use of “/dev/disk/by-path” can result in device names being slightly different on each cluster (due to Multipulse path to LUN /route name used). Is there a variant we can use (e.g. /dev/disk/by-uuid) that will give identical names on each cluster?
Please answer my two questions
Thanks
Nick
