Edge is ready for Enterprise-class Software
By Peter Koslowski
Have you had a chance to visit IoT conferences this year? No matter where in the world you might have attended - Barcelona, Hannover, San Francisco, Singapore or Tokyo โ one message probably came though crystal clear: Edge is ready for Enterprise to embrace connected logic and extend business processes to where Things reside.
Digitalization has been modifying and re-writing business processes for years, but what is new is the technological innovation, which allows to bring Enterprise-class Logic to the Edge and allow Enterprise-class Software run at the Edge. Here are a couple of innovative ways to now use these new capabilities:
- Data Management - Rather than processing Edge data centrally by sending it to your data warehouse in a raw state, where it has to be cleaned and analyzed, why not do it at the Edge? There are other reasons why you would choose to do it that way because it is economically viable or meets the business requirements. Your Edge can today fulfill this role through running Enterprise-class Software.
- Automation and Intelligence - Application of AI methods combined with Automation is another example of Enterprise-class Logic shifting to the Edge. Using data collected at the Edge, Machine Learning generates new game-changing category of insights into your business, and by applying rules turns it into action, making it a self-driven process. Cognitive automation can bring intelligence to data intensive processes running at the Edge and model the intelligence to extend human decision making.
- Business Models - Edge computing disrupts business models by creating new network-centric ways enterprises can connect with partners to create new business. Using Blockchain enterprises leverage and gain insights not only from their own stored data, but also from that of their business partners. Blockchain is an example of Enterprise-class Software, which could not be deployed without the Edge.
Edge is evolving at the incredible rate. While this obviously is a great thing opening new opportunities, these constantly emerging innovations can nevertheless be overwhelming. The upcoming SAP Sapphire 2018 in Orlando is next opportunity to catch up. Hewlett Packard Enterprise helps customers use technology to slash the time it takes to turn ideas into value. In turn, you transform industries, markets, and lives. I am truly looking forward to this very special exchange with our customers and partners.
Here are a couple of recommended ways you can connect to us at SAP SAPPHIRE:
- Meet with us at SAP Global Partner Summit at HPE Station to learn about HPE GreenLake Cloud Agility with On-Prem Control
- See us at SAP Sapphire booth #158 for agenda of 40 sessions and demoes delivered by our partners, customers and HPE experts, specifically those focusing on HPE Intelligent Edge and HPE GreenLake
- Join HPE Thursday sessions in Theater District:
- From 1:00 - 01:20 pm in Theater District, Theater 4, Dave Carlisle, IT CTO for Hewlett Packard Enterprise, will join Randy Meyer, Vice President and General Manager of HPE Compute Solutions, to share HPEโs journey and keys to a successful HANA migration. The session is titled โHPE ITโs migration journey to SAP HANAโ.
- From 1:30 โ 1:50 pm, Dr. Tom Bradicich, VP and GM, IoT and Converged Edge Systems at HPE, will describe how HPEโs first-of-a-kind Edgeline Converged Edge Systems are delivering performance, control and cost benefits at the edge for SAP customers. The session is titled โHPE Edgeline Edge-to-Cloud solutions for SAP Leonardo.โ
I will be at the event and look forward to seeing you and discussing Edge with you there. And check out the HPE โ SAP Alliance web site if you want additional information on the powerful solutions we offer.
Peter Koslowski, WW Head of SAP Alliance, leads HPEโs strategic technology partnership programs with SAP spanning SAP HANA, S4 and SAP LEONARDO. He oversees technology co-innovation and heads go-to-market strategy for HPE globally, with 25 years of experience in SAP combining Core, Cloud and Edge, utilizing industry best practice methodologies including Agile and DevOps.
