Server Virtualization 101
You’ve probably heard people talk about how great server virtualization is and how it can help SMBs with limited IT resources save both time and money. But, do you know what exactly server virtualization is or how it saves SMBs time and money? In our newest blog series, “All about virtualization”, we will explore these topics and more! Today’s blog starts with the very basics of server virtualization and explores virtualization features and solutions from Microsoft and HPE.
What is server virtualization?
Server virtualization simply means partitioning one physical server into several virtual servers. This allows a single machine to function as multiple machines that can all use specific resources at the same time. With virtualization, a single server can run more workloads more efficiently, reducing both management complexity and IT costs. Virtualization has enabled a new generation of businesses with new efficiency and availability for their most demanding workloads.
Server virtualization, Microsoft, and HPE
- Microsoft Virtualization: Microsoft virtualization solutions go beyond basic virtualization capabilities to create comprehensive platforms for private and hybrid cloud. This means SMBs can achieve considerable cost savings and operational efficiencies. Built on Hyper-V, included in Microsoft® Windows Server®, Microsoft virtualization solutions help organizations of all sizes reduce costs by consolidating more workloads on fewer servers and increasing IT agility and flexibility across on-premises and cloud resources.
- HPE ProLiant Servers: With so many HPE ProLiant servers to choose from, there is sure to be one that fits your specific needs. From the HPE ProLiant Gen9 10 Series servers (ideal for lightly virtualized environments), to the Gen9 100 Series servers (ideal for virtualization with low to mid VM density requirements), up to the Gen9 300 and 500 Series servers (ideal for virtualization with mid to high density requirements), HPE has the ideal server for your virtualization needs!
- HPE Flex Solutions: HPE Flex Solutions for Microsoft Windows Server 2012 R2 Hyper-V are robust, scalable, easy-to-use virtualization solutions that are quick to deploy. With HPE Flex Solutions for Hyper-V you can improve performance and efficiently scale capacity to run your largest workloads, all while saving money on hardware, software licensing, and maintenance.
- HPE VM Explorer: HPE VM Explorer is a low-cost, easy-to-use, and reliable VM backup solution. Advanced server backup capabilities include incremental backups and replication, snapshot integration and native cloud support for leading Cloud platforms. With instant VM recovery, direct file level restore from the cloud, encryption, and verification, VM Explorer delivers resiliency, efficiency, and agility in virtual environments.
