Space Symposium 2021: Quick recap of the world's biggest space show!

Year after year, the Space Symposium keeps up its reputation as the โ€œmust attendโ€ space industry event. This year was no different. The Space Symposium once again lived up to our expectations by conducting lively and productive networking discussions, while exhibits showcasing the latest in space technology. Here's a quick recap of the event:

  • Secretary of the Air Force the Honorable Frank Kendall discussed at the 36th Space Symposium, noting the critical role space plays in the nationโ€™s security, the essential functions space enables in everyday life, and why access must be assured as space becomes more congested and contested.   • Science Applications International Corp. (SAIC) partnered with Space Foundation "in announcing the first inclusive space cohort of six companies representing small, minority-owned, and women-owned businesses for a joint Space Commerce Entrepreneurship Program". The announcement was made at the Space Commerce Entrepreneurship Program luncheon held at The Broadmoor Hotel in Colorado Springs in conjunction with the 36th annual Space Symposium.

  • Lt. Gen. Stephen N. Whiting, Space Operations Command commander, addressed an audience of military and commercial space professionals at the Space Symposium. In his speech, Whiting said, โ€œNow we find ourselves in this second Golden Age of Space. We take for granted now, launch and fly back of rockets, which would have been science fiction just five years ago...". Click here to learn more.

  • NASA Administrator Bill Nelson addressed the event and spoke about their upcoming missions, emphasizing the agency's climate priorities, and how NASA brings value to everyday life. He also announced that the satellite imagery software program OpenET will be publicly available starting in September.

  • And of course, HPE was there to showcase its partnership with OrbitsEdge and also to highlight the Spaceborne 2 accomplishment on the ISS. HPE OEM teamed up with OrbitsEdge to showcase SatFrame- designed to host and provide the environmental, power, communications, and hardening which permits the use of terrestrial (Earth designed) technology in Low Earth Orbit (LEO). On the contrary, Spaceborne Computer-2 will enable astronauts to eliminate longer latency and wait times associated with sending data to-and-from earth to tackle research and gain insights immediately for a range of projects.
