Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month at HPE

At Hewlett Packard Enterprise, we believe that diversity and unconditional inclusion are the cornerstones of our success. As we commemorate Hispanic Heritage Month, we take this opportunity to celebrate the rich tapestry of Hispanic and Latino cultures that greatly enrich our teams across the globe.

We understand that embracing diversity goes beyond mere recognition โ€“ it involves fostering an inclusive environment where every voice is heard and valued. In this spirit, we are delighted to share a collection of employee experiences illuminating Hispanic Heritage Month's significance in our workplace.

We hope these firsthand accounts will provide insight into the profound impact of cultural diversity, the strength of unity, and the power of representation within HPE. Join us in celebrating the heritage and stories of our colleagues as we embark on this journey of discovery and appreciation.

Taking a moment to pause and recognize my Hispanic heritage is very important to me. As Latinos, we have come a long way to earn a spotlight in the world. I truly enjoy being able to look back and recognize so many talented people who come from generations of hard-working families who sacrificed a lot to succeed and have a better life, starting with me and my family.

I was very fortunate to have multiple opportunities to experience life outside of my home country, Mexico. This allowed me to open my mind up to all the possibilities to make an impact in this world. I started my career straight out of college at HP Guadalajara (pre-split) and have continued to be challenged and grow nonstop ever since. To me, it is very important to be able to show that being a strong female Latina leader in IT is possible, and extremely rewarding. It doesn't come easy, and it can be very intimidating when people don't always look or speak like you. Staying focused and confident in the value I'm able to bring to the table only makes it much more rewarding to celebrate every success along the way.

For the last 14 years of my career, I have been trusted with several opportunities to build long-lasting, results-driven teams that all start by finding a need for improvement in how we are showing up for our Partners and Customers in the market. This has allowed me to look for diverse talent and have a diverse perspective on how to approach various situations. It also helps to come from a strong service-oriented cultural background that always keeps the customer top of mind in everything I do. I'm able to convey this to my team and bring the HPE values to life in an authentic way.

Hispanic Heritage Month to me is an opportunity to reflect on how many of us have had the opportunity to relocate and bring our cultures and contributions to our groups within HPE.

My journey with HPE started in Costa Rica, back in 2006, when I was hired to lead a group of engineers providing technical support to our customers.  I also worked on many other projects, leading and building teams to support our customers.  In 2013, I moved to supply chain, where I led the Global Demand Planning team for HPE Networking. I also helped with the Aruba acquisition and integration. Four years ago, I started managing the Sales & Operations Organization at HPE Aruba Networking and relocated with my wife and two kids to California. Iโ€™ve always tried to focus on driving innovative and creative ways of doing or looking at things, which is part of what HPE is all about. I love to work with others, watch people grow within the company, and hear different perspectives/ideas. Youโ€™ll always find warmth, charisma, empathy, passion for what we do, and friendliness in Latinosโ€ฆ thatโ€™s just embedded in our DNA.

Hispanic Heritage Month is a reminder of my heritage and an opportunity to celebrate and share the beautiful diversity of the Latin American culture as well as its significant contributions to the arts and science. All the elements of the culture merge together like food, music, and traditions reflecting what characterizes the Hispanic and Latino people: Having family at the center of society, being ingenious, festive, heartwarming, passionate, and resilient.

The main contributor to my professional growth is coming from one of the cornerstones of the Mexican culture which is: Listening to the most experienced people because of the monumental amount of knowledge amassed throughout the years in combination with the Latin American culture of passion, effervescence, resiliency, and ingenuity.
