Since the beginning, HPE has advanced the way people live and work by creating innovative technology at the heart of successful organizations and communities all over the world. We invite you inside our careers and culture through stories of the people who power HPEour team members.

Lorenzo Gonzales, Distinguished Technologist, shares how his journey from technology roles to sales helps him to readily understand prospective customer challenges and offer solutions to address their unique business needs

Lorenzo’s HPE career journey

Based in Rome, Italy, Lorenzo Gonzales serves as Distinguished Technologist for the Hybrid Cloud Solutions Sales Portfolio. Over the last 28 years, he’s held a variety of roles before leading global sales programs to accelerate the HPE GreenLake business.

In 1995, Lorenzo was contacted by a headhunter looking to fill technical roles for Hewlett-Packard and he jumped at the opportunity to be part of an innovative organization as a program and practice manager. This allowed Lorenzo to learn about multiple technologies and gain fundamental experience in project, financial, business, and people management. From there, he spent some time as Chief of Staff and expanded his experience in business and sales strategy, executive relationships, and country management, then later moved into Global Sales.

Lorenzo coordinated multi-year engagements in the EMEA Strategic Pursuits before becoming Chief of Digital Innovation for Middle East where he would devise, design, and launch the HPE Digital Life Garage. All of these experiences positioned him to take on Global Sales where he can readily translate prospective organization’s objectives with strategies and tactics to solve their unique challenges.

Team member straight talk

Q: What about working at HPE motivates you?
A: First and foremost, the people. Peers never missing the motivation to do something for you. Second is our leadership, taking care of everyone and considering the person and the professional. Also, our culture. I have contributed to mentorship initiatives for the Women’s Network Resource Group, and to our Global Disabilities Network. My daughter has a rare genetic syndrome and that opened me up to the world of disabilities in their full and broad variety; having MY company investing in it makes me proud!

Q: How do you redefine what’s next in your career?
A: What gets me more excited is that I have the chance to write the future. In my past I had a regular sequence of cycles, each one preparing me for the next one. Every time I invested a bit of effort to learn something new – formal methods, practical experiences, new relationships – that defined my “next me” and my ability to succeed job after job.

Q: What is one piece of advice you would give to someone interested in your field?
A: Be curious and ready to adapt and change. Twenty years ago, business and technology were completely separated, now they are twisted, and you need to command business language, mindset, and attitude in addition to technology; it will be even wilder in the future, just look at what Generative AI is suggesting today. You need to constantly learn in advance, to be ready to capture your next big, intriguing opportunity.
