HPE's Recordbreaking 2022 - Driving Impact for Non-Profits
Being a Force for Good is one of Hewlett Packard Enterpriseโs core values. From the beginning, our founders Bill Hewlett and David Packard built a company culture that saw technology as a positive force in the world, and encouraged our people to drive positive impact in our communities. Today, we continue that mission with a purpose to advance the way people live and work, driving value for our customers, partners, team members, and communities through everything we do.
Throughout 2022, HPE team members generously contributed their time, talent, and resources to improve lives and livelihoods in communities around the world.
In fiscal year 2022 (FY22), HPE team members collectively:
- Volunteered 122,000 hours, and
- Contributed $9.9M in team member donations and matching
- Supported 5,700 non-profit organizations globally
I am proud to say that in FY22, more HPE team members donated than ever before and donations surpassed historical levels. While this is impressive, I am especially touched by the specific ways that our team members strengthened communities and tackled real-world problems, from health equity to digital inclusion, human rights, and climate change.
Here are a few examples of our team membersโ efforts in FY22:
- Japan: 67 new team from HPE Japanโs graduate program volunteered to help four non-profit organizations by coming up with solutions to several of the non-profits' IT-related issues.
- China: In partnership with The American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham) in Shanghai and Netspring, HPE participated in the AmCham Shanghai E-waste Drive, which helped to collect more than two tons of potential e-waste and divert it from landfill. Netspring is an organization that helps avoid toxic disposal of e-waste by giving new life to used electronics and transforming e-waste into usable equipment that is goes to support digital education for underprivileged communities.
- Costa Rica: HPE team members spent several months teaching public high school students about innovation, logic, cybersecurity to encourage them to pursue STEM careers. Students developed projects to solve real life problems affecting their high-school and visited HPE offices to experience life at a tech company for themselves.
- Ireland: In 2022, HPE team members worked hard with a national task force in Ireland to protect people from technology-facilitated abuse. The team developed a bespoke cyber security training course for Safe Ireland to be able to guide and educate service users to arm themselves with online cyber safety training and privacy knowledge.
- USA: HPE Houstonโs Womenโs Network Resource Group ran a Girls Tech Camp for girls aged 11 to 13, designed to help girls see their potential in tech careers and leadership. The camp provided tools to develop technical skills, shared the support and experiences of women in the industry, and engaged students with fun hands-on activities. Campers learned about the tech industry while gaining new skills in electronics.
Each example of our team members working to make an impact is heartening, and there are many more. In FY22, HPE team members leveraged technology and their talent to innovate solutions to the worldโs most pressing challenges.
We know that being part of a company that is at the forefront of innovation is inspiring for our people, but they tell us that they also deeply value the supportive environment and a comprehensive suite of benefits that enable them to strengthen social connections to their community. HPE gives 60 hours of paid volunteer time off to enable team members to make a positive impact on the world. The HPE Foundation further matches each team memberโs contributions to charitable causes up to USD $5,000 per year and donates USD $10 per hour of team member volunteer time to a charity of their choice.
As we look ahead at 2023, we will continue to tap into our strengths and expertise to deliver on our commitment to advance the way people live and work. Over this new year, I am excited to share more about how HPE, our team members, and valued partners are working to be a Force for Good. To those engaged in this endeavour with us, thank you.
