Jose Perez, Lead Software Engineer for Comm Tech, made bold moves to build 20-year career
Since the beginning, HPE has advanced the way people live and work by creating innovative technology at the heart of successful organizations and communities all over the world. We invite you inside our careers and culture through stories of the people that power HPE—our team members.
Jose Perez, Lead Software Engineer, shares his 20-year career journey at HPE, what he is excited about for the future, and advice he has for those interested in communications technology.
Jose’s HPE career journey
Jose Perez serves as a Lead Software Engineer for the Communications Technology (Comm Tech) team as a part of Global Communications. He has been with the company for 20 years and is based in Tenino, Washington. He was on the Media Solutions team for three years then worked on several consulting projects around the United States with HP Labs, now HPE Labs. He was a part of the initiative to bring to market new applications for the HP Indigo Digital Presses, including identifying new ways to improve how to print product label jobs effectively and efficiently. Several patents were submitted and granted to his team. In 2013, Jose came back to the Media Solutions team, which after several years, evolved to what it is now—Comm Tech.
In his role, Jose is in charge of maintaining and improving Communications platforms for all of HPE, like HPE Insider—the company’s intranet. He currently leads the development of the new internal “Corporate Search” function that team members can access and utilize daily by keeping it operational and implementing new enhancements. Jose is also behind the updates that keep all HPE’s platforms properly integrated with cyber security authentication mechanisms that keep internal apps secure.
Team member straight talk
Q: What gets you most excited about the future?
A: The next step in software development is jumping into Generative AI. I have been looking at this with a lot of excitement as I see many of the wonderful opportunities for Global Communications and for the HPE community, such as new ways to access and fetch information from the plethora of data and information that HPE has gathered internally over all these years.
Q: How do you redefine what’s next for your career?
A: During all my years with HPE, I have participated in highly innovative products. This has been one of my most precious learnings: Never be afraid to come with new ideas and innovate. My field allows for those opportunities and I’m confident my continuous learning will lead me to what’s next.
Q: Which one of HPE’s beliefs resonates with you the most and why?
A: “We believe in bold moves.” I think this is my motto. It may be easier to stay on a single path and a repetitive job, but “innovation” and trying new technology has been part of my career. Bold moves mean failing sometimes. And I have in the past, but I take that learning and move on into new ways to implement and create software.
