Sports for good: HPE is title sponsor for PGA TOUR’s HPE Houston Open
HPE puts its support where its heart lies: In advancing life and work globally through IT leadership and community commitment.
The Hewlett Packard Enterprise Houston Open is in full swing this week, welcoming HPE as a title sponsor and continuing a long-time sporting tradition. The golf tournament runs through Nov. 14.
“HPE is honored to partner with the Astros Golf Foundation and PGA TOUR as the Houston Open title sponsor in 2021,” said Hewlett Packard Enterprise President and CEO Antonio Neri. “Our culture of giving strengthens the communities where we live and work and empowers our team members to use their passion and expertise to serve others. We are committed to being a force for good in our communities and partnering with the Astros Golf Foundation for the Hewlett Packard Enterprise Houston Open furthers that commitment.”

“We are so incredibly thankful to have [HPE] as a continuing partner in the fight against cancer. The impact that they have made on their community is truly immeasurable.”
-Rebecca Winburn, American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life
Committed to giving
The title sponsorship is only the latest in HPE’s commitment to the Houston community and around the world. HPE’s charitable support includes providing community grants to the American Cancer Society.
Through an ongoing partnership with ACS, HPE has raised more than $575,000 for the organization over the last 20 years, ACS Relay for Life’s Rebecca Winburn said. “We are so incredibly thankful to have [HPE] as a continuing partner in the fight against cancer. The impact that they have made on their community is truly immeasurable.”
Houston has been HPE’s largest U.S. employment hub for many years and, in 2020, HPE announced that the company’s headquarters were moving to the Houston area.
HPE Code Wars: A coding tournament
HPE’s charitable support in Houston includes HPE Code Wars, a highly anticipated annual computer programming competition for high school students. It was first hosted at the Hewlett Packard Houston campus in 1998.
Today, many cities around the world host annual HPE Code Wars events. Students “learn about problem solving, teamwork, and patience along with showcasing their coding skills,” Pam Burleigh said.
Burleigh, a product manager at HPE, has volunteered at HPE Code Wars and has seen the impact it’s had on the participants.
“I’m impressed with the talents of the many Houston and surrounding area high school-age young men and ladies that participate,” Burleigh said. “This not only helps the Houston community by encouraging the high schoolers to consider coding in college and as a career later in life, it also impacts the world since HPE Code Wars is hosted in other countries, like India.”
Burleigh emphasized the lasting value of HPE Code Wars. “[The students] learn about problem solving, teamwork, and patience along with showcasing their coding skills.”
