GDPR. Are your customers ready?
With 720 million hack attempts every 24 hours worldwide1, and companies losing $9 million, on average, each year due to cybercrime2, security needs to be top of mind when thinking about server infrastructure!
In response to these growing cyber threats, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) –one of the main trending topics during recent events such as the HPE Global Partner Summit and Microsoft Inspire—was developed to strengthen and standardize data privacy protections for residents of the European Union (EU).
The GDPR went into effect May 2018 and is meant as a replacement for the European Data Protection Directive, which was created in 1995 and represents the last major EU legislation regarding personal data privacy. Compliance with the GDPR is paramount to anyone doing business in EU countries including organizations established in the EU (whether the data is processed in or outside the EU) or established outside the EU and offering goods or services to people in the EU. Everyone who plans to do business in the European Union and/or work with European resident's data should make sure they are in compliance with the GDPR. This means identifying data risk and scaling up technology so that it adequately protects customer's data. Noncompliance with the GDPR will mean fines of up to 20 million euro or 4% of the company's revenue (whichever number is greater).
HPE has proven expertise in compute, storage, and networking infrastructure and infrastructure security that can directly assist customers in ensuring GDPR compliance with market-leading solutions that have security features built in from the ground up. HPE is the only vendor to provide silicon root of trust—found in HPE ProLiant Gen10 servers—which creates a digital fingerprint in the silicon and ensures the server will never boot with compromised firmware.
Pairing Windows Server 2016 with Gen10 servers adds new layers of protection built into the server operating system to further safeguard against security breaches. Key features within Windows Server can help you to efficiently and effectively implement the security and privacy mechanisms the GDPR requires for compliance. While the use of these features will not guarantee your compliance, they will support your efforts to do so.
Whether your customers need to be GDPR compliant or not, security is always top of mind in IT and there is no better time to improve their server security by migrating to HPE ProLiant Gen10 servers and Windows Server 2016!
