HPE iLO critical software update: what you need to know
From time to time, HPE releases a critical software update to enhance the functionality of HPE Integrated Lights-Out (iLO) and/or to fix known issues and security vulnerabilities. The iLO Amplifier Pack is an at-scale inventory and update management tool that leverages iLO advanced functionality to enable rapid discovery, detailed inventory reporting, and firmware and driver updates for up to 10,000 HPE ProLiant Gen8, Gen9 and Gen10 servers. It eliminates the need to create and manage customized scripts, reducing personnel requirements and downtime. Plus, it enables you to view your complete inventory and keep your servers up to date from a single dashboard.
The Amplifier Pack also assists in manual and automated recovery of systems with corrupt firmware. An integrated discovery engine identifies components that need to be updated and also takes care of interdependency issues. It also functions as an on-premises aggregator for HPE InfoSight for servers, collecting and securely transmitting data from the servers being monitored.
The latest release, version 2.10, was released December 15, 2021. In addition to the key features of the previous release, the new version:
- Allows the use of service accounts on managed servers that iLO Amplifier Pack automatically creates. The HPE iLO Amplifier Packโgenerated service account is used for any kind of operations performed on the managed server.
- Introduces a password rotation policy for service accounts that HPE iLO Amplifier Pack creates.
- Supports migrating the midway server setup with changes to introduce and use new midway servers.
- Fixes an issue where the user is unable to reset the static route for IPv4 even after clearing it in the Network Settings page and performing a successful reboot.
- Fixes an issue where a user experienced an error while downloading the product entitlement report.
- Fixes an issue where the remote syslog disabled error message appeared on the GUI after an HPE iLO Amplifier Pack reboot.
- Performs appliance OS updates.
As a critical update, HPE recommends that customers use the Amplifier Pack to update all HPE ProLiant Gen8, Gen9, Gen10 and Gen10 Plus servers in their environments. It is supported for Windows Server 2012, 2012R2, and 2019 as well as Windows Server 2022 running on ProLiant Gen10 Plus. A separate license for iLO Amplifier Pack is not required; it is a free download. You can download the virtual appliance using just a valid email ID. Full functionality of the iLO Amplifier Pack is available with an iLO Advanced license.
