30 years of co-innovation—and looking ahead to 30 more

When I talk to customers about the HPE 360-degree partnership with SAP, the conversations often focus on how much they value our joint solutions. Many customers are eager to tell us how much value they see in running SAP on the HPE GreenLake platform. Others tell us they find the HPE Superdome Flex to be a superior platform for running their mission-critical SAP environment.

Our joint customers feel confident deploying HPE and SAP solutions because of our continuing track record of success:

  • HPE is ranked as the #1 SAP platform in the world[1]
  • HPE is #1 in scale-up and scale-out capacity, delivering offerings suitable for SAP environments of any size.[1]
  • And HPE is #1 in SAP HANA server deployments.[1]

And the HPE and SAP track record extends even further. Today, more than 25,000 customers[2] worldwide run SAP apps on HPE infrastructure, and HPE has deployed more than 40,000 SAP HANA servers. 2 And to top it all off, HPE runs the world’s largest SAP HANA system in production—at 130TB. 2

Together, HPE and SAP have helped our joint customers evolve consistently, innovate continually, react appropriately to change, and extend their organizational longevity.

For today, however, let’s concentrate on a critical topic: remaining focused on the future. And as we look to the future, let’s specifically pay attention to the future of ERP operating in the cloud.

It should come as no surprise that many enterprises need to modernize their SAP legacy infrastructure. They need to rebalance SAP workloads to address rising costs, management complexities, and inefficiencies.

Current SAP workloads primarily run in on-premises data centers; if not rebalanced across a hybrid environment, enterprises run the risk of long-term impacts to the budget and overall performance. The work to address this risk requires a clear understanding of which workloads should remain on-premises, and which ones should move to the public cloud.

It should come as no surprise that most SAP modernization conversations will include SAP HANA—the SAP revolutionary in-memory relational database management system—and SAP S/4HANA—the SAP next-generation ERP solution for large enterprises.

For most large enterprises, the multistep modernization process requires many months to complete; it also includes deployment of new SAP-certified servers and storage specifically built for in-memory computing. Due to the critical nature of SAP ERP workloads, enterprises will go to great lengths to avoid risk and disruption during their modernization efforts. That’s where HPE expertise with “everything SAP” comes into play—and the HPE GreenLake edge-to-cloud platform becomes increasingly important.
