Updating Blade Servers via HPSUM / OA
Dear all,
as I don't know to which component my problem is realated (HW/SW, both...) I decided to post it in the "general" section. If this is wrong, I kindly ask the moderator to shift it to a more appropriate list.
My understanding of the HP c7000 world:
"If I use HPSUM to connect to the OA of a c7000 enlcosure it should be easy to update the FW of blades (namely Proliant servers) installed in the enclosure, it should be possible with some mouseclicks"
However, reality looks different to me...
I have a HP c7000 with serveral Proliants (most of them bl460c G6) which I'd like to manage via the OA/HPSUM and apply FW updates. I can flawlessly connect to the OA (192..168.0.20), log in the WEB interface, check the status of the blades and log into the blade's ILO, so IMHO the connection is fine.
Furthermore I can use HPSUM to connect (add a node...) to the OA, add a baseline (2017.04.0 - as far as I know the latest for the G6 stuff) and start an inventory on the OA which finish without errors - i think. The OA is stated as "above baseline", which is OK as it has version 4.96 on it. As far as I can see, all goes well so far, BUT if I try to update a blade, the inventory process starts, goes through and states "Node up to date. No applicable components found". This seems to be odd, as e.g. the ILO ROM of the blade is 2.25 (Apr.14.20014) and I can't belive that there was no update until 2017...
So, question is, what is wrong? Did I miss something? Any ideas?
If you need additional information or screenshots please let me know.
Any ideas or suggestions are highly appeciated,
Thanks for your time,
Best
Ernst

Re: Updating Blade Servers via HPSUM / OA
Hello,
Since the BL460c G6 is classified as post-production there is no new SPP. You will probaly have to update the blades individually if the updated firmware exists.
The latest version for the G6 iLO2 is 2.33 (30 Mar 2018) and here is the download link.
Product Detail - HPE ProLiant BL460c G6 Server | HPE Support
Hope this helps.

Re: Updating Blade Servers via HPSUM / OA
Hello msobers22,
thank you for your time to reply. I am aware that the G6 are a bit outdated
However, there is (and this is true for all generations) a final SPP supporting the G6.
According to https://community.hpe.com/t5/proliant-servers-ml-dl-sl/latest-psp-spp-for-proliant-dl360-g5-g6/td-p/6969548 this should be SPP2017040, which I downloaded and assigned to the OA as well as to the blades.
As you might guess from my late response, I was quite busy the last time (the blade system is a side project...), but I hope that I will find the time to try an update with the SPP2017040 locally, meaning direct at the blade, but not via the c7000/OA. I will post the results here.
Meanwhile, if somebody has another idea, please let me know...
Best,
Ernst

Re: Updating Blade Servers via HPSUM / OA
Hi Earnst,
You can also update the blade firmware through ILO. Please refer this video.
