Re: DV 6040US Broadcom Wireless Adapter NOT WORKING

for those of us who have the device still in the device manager, the light just wont switch from orange to blue no matter what, just open up device manager, and download the updates on the broadcom wireless. it fixed my problem in less than 5 minutes.

Re: DV 6040US Broadcom Wireless Adapter NOT WORKING

Notebook PC wireless button light is always red in colour issue.

Just follow below steps:

1. Press â startâ then select â runâ then key in â regeditâ this will open the system registry

2. Go to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Control/Class/{4D36E972-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002bE10318}/

3. Search under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Control for â Atherosâ
or right click the folder {4D36E972-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002bE10318} and choose â Findâ then key in â Atherosâ

Now this will most likely vary on your machine. I found it in the â 0011? folder

4. Once you locate it add new string value to that folder. Right Click the select â newâ then â String Valueâ

Name the first â String Valueâ that you created as â gpioPinFunc0? press enter. Right click it again and then select â Modifyâ . Key in â 3? in the â Value Dataâ

it should look something like this:
Value Name:
gpioPinFunc0
Value data:
3

5. Create another â String Valueâ with this values:

Value Name:
gpioFunc0ActHi
Value data:
0

6. Close the Registry and restart your computer.

Hope this will help all of you to solve wireless button red light always on issue.

I found this on a different forum from Aug. 2007. I don't know if it is still in effect or not. They just issued an identical notification for the Presario F500 series on July 13, 2008.
I also don't know if there are other notifications for different computers affected with this same problem.

Hope this helps someone.

Re: DV 6040US Broadcom Wireless Adapter NOT WORKING

I had the same problem on a 6715s lappie.

Did all the usual power off, uninstall/install in safe mode stuff. Nothing worked.

Until I simply reloaded BIOS defaults (F10 on startup -> reset defaults) and lo, blue lights everywhere !!

Re: DV 6040US Broadcom Wireless Adapter NOT WORKING

the way i had fixed my dv6095ea is by removing the battery and starting up on just mains power this worked all the time but as soon as i inserted my battery the notebook wouldent even start-up. hp are having big problems with there laptops i would sell it and buy a asus notebook pc they are very solid and would last very long, thats what i'm doing after everything is backed up. hp new laptops seem to be allot more better in quality but i would still go for an asus.

Re: DV 6040US Broadcom Wireless Adapter NOT WORKING

Okay folks,
This problem has been occuring for me on a hp/compaq presario F500 laptop for the past 10-12 mths. I've been trawling the web ever since looking for a solution. After trying all the tips listed here since 2006? - F10, syst default; power on/off with battery; etc etc & some more - like open up the laptop, wires loose etc..that I found by G00gl1ng.. This is what worked for me...

After the restart, if the dreaded orange light comes on; re-start in "safe mode with networking" .. LO & Behold! blue light!; restart normally via start menu and you should be good to go.
This is definitely a resource conflict on boot-up issue. On boot-up, the MB tries to load the Wireless 802.11 driver AND some other unknown device too...( I read somewhere on the web that it may be the display driver - NVIDIA).
I'm trending to suspect the display driver too.. If someone (knows correctly!:D ) &can post a list of 'DRIVERS that are loaded in Safe prompt with networking vs. Drivers loaded in reg boot"; I'm willing to bet that the display driver is AT LEAST one on the list...
hope this helps.. For me, I know what to do next time..:D

Re: DV 6040US Broadcom Wireless Adapter NOT WORKING

All of a sudden this happened on my compaq f500, what worked was the suggestion to hit F10- then and go to reset bios which was F9 on my laptop) , then f10 to exit and save, computer restarts and the blue light came on.

Also tried the safemode w/ networking - that worked but when I got out of safe mode the red light was back on, but at least you can get on internet as long as you were in safe mode.

The Link above explains the recall. The Computer Models and the issues for this recall. Wireless Card Malfunction is Number 1 on the list.

Dealing with tech support.

Hp Tech support is driving to minimize any chance of them having to pay for new parts. In saying this.
If your Wireless Card Is not in Device Manager and You have an Amber Light When the Wireless Switch is in the ON positions. This is a Malfunction With the motherboard and not the Wireless Card.

Fixes that will not fix this issue.

- Trouble Shooting with hp - They like to belame alot of this issue on:

- Microsoft.
- Corupt Drivers.
- Out of date firmware.

If Hp Tells you this, Let them know Your Wireless Card no longer shows in device manger (Make sure it doesnt show in device manger to be fair.)
Also STRESS That you have an amber light that is in the wireless switch on posistion.

Then referance this recall and let them know , Hp Has admitted to this issue and your laptop needs serviced.

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&docname=c01087277

Again. Stess to tech support your issue.

There series of steps are things like:

Re - Installing The driver

Updating Firmware.

If these steps work they are only temporty

PLEASE READ THIS:

DO NOT, I REPEAT< DO NOT LET THEM TALK YOU INTO

A RE INSTALL - THIS IS A WASTE OF YOUR TIME>

HP HAS ADMITTED TO THIS ISSUE>

YOU NEED SERVICE> THESE ARE ONLY TEMPORARY FIXES>

If That Doesn't Work - LEGAL ACTION IS YOUR NEXT STEP>
