Topology Change on ProCurve Wireless Access Point 520wl

Hello,

We have a problem with our Wireless AP 520wl. In each AP we have a lot lf information message like :
"Topology Change" (see in attachement)

Apparently this message doesn't interact the operation. But I would like to know what is it.

The AP are fixed to the wall so without any changement.

Thanks a lot for your help

Regards,

Geoffrey,

Re: Topology Change on ProCurve Wireless Access Point 520wl

Hi

This trap is sent by the AP when any of its configured ports transitions from the Learning state to the Forwarding state.
Or from the Forwarding state to the Blocking state.

This trap is not sent if a newRoot trap is sent for the same transition. Trap Severity Level is: Informational.

Good Luck !!!

Thank you Mohieddin Kharnoub.

We don't need this information. How to disable this function ?

Something to unmark ? (see the attachement)

Thank you for your help

Re: Topology Change on ProCurve Wireless Access Point 520wl

Hi

In fact its obvious that you have a Spanning tree in your Topology, and the Spanning Tree is enabled and its changing for some reason.

If you have the AP 520 works in bridging mode and forms a loop in your topology, and if you have enabled the Automatic Channel Selection (ACS), which pick up a channel for the Wireless interface based on Signal to Noise ratio from neighbors wireless channels.
And then you have soem interference or fluctuated wireless neighbor works on the same channel and forces the Auto channel selection to change channel and and refresh the Wireless interface (which is part of the STP loop) then a Spanning tree topology change occures, and generate this trap.

Its only an openion, but anyway if you can tell more about your network design then it will be helpfull for better understanding.

Good Luck !!!

Re: Topology Change on ProCurve Wireless Access Point 520wl

Hello Mohieddin Kharnoub.

Thank you for your answer.

Yes I have the spanning tree protocol enable but not the "Automatic Channel Selection" , its fixed to the 8 channel.

I don't know how to explain my network design. We have 2 ou 3 AP for each "hangar" with the same ssid and channel. Each "hangar" is connected to switch.

I compared the configuration of our APs, see in attachement the xls file.

Thanks you for your help!

Re: Topology Change on ProCurve Wireless Access Point 520wl

Hi

The attached file may not be helpful, what i need to know is , why spanning tree is blocking an AP port? do you have any wireless bridges ?

If you can attach show run, or show teck output for the switches that will help.

Don't forgetto assign points.

Good Luck !!!

Re: Topology Change on ProCurve Wireless Access Point 520wl

Hi !

We don't have configured the AP, it was made by an another company...

No we don't have any wireless bridges but we did not activate the spanning tree protocol in our switch...so I think that is no necessary to use it for the AP. I unactivated the SPT on 3 AP since the Aug 18 2006.

For the moment we don't have the message and no problem with the Wifi.

So we will see... Thank you
