WL310 problem to connect to other users..
I have a Pavilion desktop and a laptop, using a WL310 AP and WL110 Lan card and WL 210 USB for the desktop.
With both (laptop and desktop) I can connect to the web, so I am sure it works! (allthough not simultaniously). Now I like to make a network, so using the desktop for connecting to the web and using the laptop to connect to the desktop.
- the AP setup utility fails if he is looking for the WL310
- if I use the network wizard, it dosn't even show my network equipment!! (if I use a crosslink cable then it DOES show the wireless network equipment, but the system uses the cable to connect)
nevertheless... anyone a hint 'what to try next'???
Thanks in advance...
Best regards
Rob

Re: WL310 problem to connect to other users..
I confirm using wizard won't help, only AP setup will...
Few questions :
what OS do you run ?
What is each machine TCP/IP configuration ?
Do you use WEP encryption ?
Are you on same ssid on both machines ?
How do you connect exactly to internet ?
Tks

Re: WL310 problem to connect to other users..
Thanks for helping out...
Regarding your questions:
what OS do you run ? BOTH XP
What is each machine TCP/IP configuration ? SORRY: HOW CAN I CHECK THIS (I MUST BE A BEGINNER....)
Do you use WEP encryption ? NO 1ST I WANT TO TRY WITHOUT
Are you on same ssid on both machines ? WHERE CAN I CHECK THIS??
How do you connect exactly to internet ?
I HAVE A CABLE MODEM CONNECTED TO WL310, SO PC AND LAPTOP CAN CONNECT TO THE WL310 AND GO TO THE WEB (NOT SIMULTANIOUSLY...)
-----
My ideal situation:
1) Laptop can connect to web directly
2) desktop can connect to web directly
separate situation:
3) pc and laptop share all documents and connect to the web simaltaniously, by the a shared connection, either via desktop or laptop.
Thanks!

Re: WL310 problem to connect to other users..
I'm on my way out but I'll give you some info on Jerome's questions and he can elaborate later.
One way to determine network settings:
Click Start > Settings > Network & Dialup Connections > and choose a "Local Area Connection". If you have more than one on there, do them one at a time. Click on Properties and make sure you see "Internet Protocol TCP/IP", then click on it and choose properties. That will show you your settings. The big question is, is that WL310 acting as a DHCP server. If so, make sure your TCP/IP settings are to "obtain an IP address automatically".
It might help to know the IP addresses of the two systems. They could be picking up separate network addresses (if the AP isn't a DHCP server. To get the IP:
Start > Run > type in "cmd" and press enter > type in "ipconfig" and press enter. This will list your IP information.
The SSID is a unique identifier for your wireless network. If you don't know what it is then you likely haven't changed the defaults and shouldn't be having an issue along those lines. Especially if both systems are talking to the Net individually.
What did you mean about your "not simultaneously" comment??
Do you run any firewall software? That could keep the systems from seeing eachother, or connecting anyway.
