Re: 5700 upgrade from R2432P05 to R2432P06

Well, it looks strange to me that 2 near minor releases - 05 and 06 are not compatible, while 06 is compatible with 03 and earlier.

In 05 release notes https://support.hpe.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=emr_na-a00035480en_us&docLocale=en_US Table 3 ISSU compatibility list

Current version Earlierversion Compatibility

5700-CMW 710-R 2432P05 5700-CMW 710-R 2432P03 Yes 05 and 03 are compatible.

So how 05 and 06 can be not?

Contacted HPE support, have no reply for more then 12 hours :-(

I have 24*7 support ;-)

Re: 5700 upgrade from R2432P05 to R2432P06

Slesru,

I agree with Parnassus.   Mistakes can be made in the release notes.  Your recourse is to reboot into the new release since the version update is not compatible with ISSU.

Sorry.

David

Re: 5700 upgrade from R2432P05 to R2432P06

Slesru,

I'm sorry this is taking so long.  I just looked through your case and the Engineering elevation.  All of this is because of an OSPF process hang?

Since the software is saying that upgrading from R2432P05 to R2432P06 is not ISSU compatible, to get there you will need to reboot into the new version.

Looking at the Engineering case, they received your data on the 11th.  They are still investigating at this point.  They have not been able to reproduce the issue so far.

I've emailed the L2 Engineer and I will talk to my ERT peer who has the case.

David

Re: 5700 upgrade from R2432P05 to R2432P06

Hello! Yes, this is ospfd hang. I don't think it is possible to reproduce this, because I don't know how. Such bugs can be fixed by investigating sources, I did this several times myself. "Since the software is saying that upgrading from R2432P05 to R2432P06 is not ISSU compatible, to get there you will need to reboot into the new version." I'd like to get this from support, but they prefer to not reply to this question. Thank you!

Hello!

Sort of checkpoint.

Today support informed me that P05 upgrade to P06 is ISSU compatible.

They even provided proof- upgrade logs.

But ! Here is there output:

They recommended to download again, I got the same software which says it is not compatible .

This means that  HPE uploaded wrong software on site, which has at least wrong info about compatibility, may be some other problems. Hope they will reupload right version before end of my vacations.

Many thanks to VoIP-Buddy, he helped me to get support attention.

Re: 5700 upgrade from R2432P05 to R2432P06

Finally, I tired from HPE support inefficency  and just performed upgrade from P05 to P06 as ISSU compatible,

no problems.

btw, our problem with OSPF is also not solved and will not solved, HPE said they can't reproduce this, and can find any reason for this while inspecting sources.

Second stage of my plan is to replace HPE hardware with something stable and really enterprise

Slesru,

Glad you did the upgrade but sorry that didn't fix OSPF.   My peer Darren has your case and I saw that he responded to you yesterday.  The case is still moving forward.  Just waiting to hear from Engineering.

David

Re: 5700 upgrade from R2432P05 to R2432P06

Just upgraded two IRF stacks as compatible, so now we have all on P06.

Still no P05 in compatible while running P06.

Re: 5700 upgrade from R2432P05 to R2432P06

Finally, after several months, from support:

We found the root cause of ISSU problem the customer reported. The result depends on if R2432P06 ipe was extracted or not. If it was extracted, we can see the R2432P05 in output of commands. Otherwise, we can not see it.

What's the meaning of saying if ipe file was extracted or not when the extraction operation (AKA de-archiving it) is possible only by (and through) the Switch's Comware NOS itself? IIRC there isn't a command to manually extract an ipe file (to see what it embeds) and the ipe file is automatically managed by the switch during the update procedure (as per documentation). Am I wrong?
