Maximum no. of switches allowed to stack in A5500 EI Switches

Hi All,

 

Can someone please help me out with how many switches can be stacked together in HP A5500 EI Switches.

9 switches in IRF virtual switch for A5500-EI

9 switches in IRF virtual switch for A5800/A5820

4 switches in IRF virtual switch for A5120-EI

2 switches in IRF virtual switch for A7500, A9500, A12500

Thanks a lot for your detailed answer.

 

I would just like to know since HP A-Series doesn't have inbuilt stacking modules so they use the 10Gig Modules for stacking. Then it that case what if I also want to use 10Gig uplinks to connecting to the data centre.

 

Can you please advice.

Hi Sebastian,

 

You don't need all 10G ports for IRF(stacking).
Since all A5500 switches support 2 extended module slots, you can use one slot with two 10G ports for IRF and another module with one or two 10 G ports for uplink to interconnect to your datacenter.

CX4 is one way, you can also use the regular 10GbE fiber modules.

The dual port CX4 modules are the cheapest way of linking 5500EI switches for IRF. You would probably have the other module with dual SFP+ ports for connection to the DC core switches (with copper DACs or fibre optic cable).
