492620-B21HDD -DP showing up as SP

Hi-

This drive should be a dual port:
300GB hot-swap dual-port Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) hard drive - 10,000 RPM, 2.5-inch Small Form Factor (SFF)

I've verified the PN on the drive and the drive tray. However when I scan it thru diagnostics it's saying it's a single port. Tried both a ML350G5 server and a Blade with the same results.

Any ideas why this would be?

Can you note the model number of the drive and put screenshot where it is reporting the drive as SP?

Also what diagnostics being used here?

The diagnostics would be the Smart Start Array Configuration Utility.

Re: 492620-B21HDD -DP showing up as SP

Those are the HP part numbers. I was hoping to get the model number of the drive which would start with DG, DH etc..

Anyway, I don't think it's a problem with the drive which is indeed Dual Port drive. I think the problem is that the SA controller which is not recognizing the drive as dual port. In this context, the drive and the controller firmware are relevant. I would check these f/w versions and update them to the latest if needed.

Re: 492620-B21HDD -DP showing up as SP

The pn on the drive is DG0300FARVV

We have the latest firmware on the controller.
The firmware on the drive is HPD2.

Tried it on a third server just for giggles and had the same result.

Like I said before, it has to do with the firmware. See this

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=329290&prodSeriesId=1127655&swItem=MTX-30e2c394855747b9afafee3eb8&prodNameId=4061912&swEnvOID=181&swLang=8&taskId=135&mode=4&idx=2

This drive is basically 6G drive but because of the negotiation issue mentioned, it would work as SP drive at 3G.

You need to update the HDD firmware to HPD5.
