Generally speaking, can the H30 and D320 be replaced by eitherK420, T500 or K580 machines?
Also, what is the difference between the D320 and
D310?

Solution
The answer to your first question is yes, although I would stay away from the T-box. You will find that the K-580 will be considerably faster than your other two choices. Moreover, the K-580 will allow you to run either 64-bit or 32-bit versions of HP-UX 11x or HP-UX 10.20.
Questiuon two:
D310 - 100 MHz PA7100LC Processor
D320 - 132 Mhx PA7300LC Processor
Questiuon two:
D310 - 100 MHz PA7100LC Processor
D320 - 132 Mhx PA7300LC Processor
If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

Re: H30 and D320 being replaced
Hi Ed,
I would highly reccomend going for an L-Class box as a replacement to the D box. We went from a D330 to an L1000 (440MHz single processor) and the difference in performance is amazing. Both CPU and IO are MUCH (at least a factor of 3) faster.
The other advantage is that the LVD disks are much cheaper (and faster) than the FWD disks. And if you don't like HP's pricing on these LVD (as they are still 3 to 4 times the "real world" price), you can get some Maxtor (nee quantum) Atlas 10K II/III drives in a good quality external case, and bolt them on giving excellent performance at a fraction of the price. Of course there is a maintenance issue there.
Regards,
Tony Horton.
