orange light flashing on rp5470 server

Hi, All,

I have a few rp5470 server (L3000) HP-UX servers. The orange light on the front beside the green power light is flashing. I know that that means the server has some problem. What should I check? How to get rid of this?

Thanks a lot,
Carol

Logon to server.

Check dmesg and syslog.log

Logon to GSP. sl -- check chasis logs.

Re: orange light flashing on rp5470 server

Check the dipslay. Its probably the attention light.

To clear.

Log on console
Ctrl-B
enter twice to login, provide password if you set it.

sl

Look at the messages.

Once you go through them all the attention light will be off.

A red fault light requires immediate attention. Same thing to check it, but you will most likely have to take action to keep your system running if the fault light is on.

Re: orange light flashing on rp5470 server

Thanks a lot Steven and RAC. I consoled to the server and went to GSP and ran sl. The following shows: Select Chassis Code Buffer to be displayed:
Incoming, Activity, Error, Current boot or Last boot? (I/A/E/C/L)

Do I have to go through all the messages or the error (E) ones should be fine? How would the orange light stop flashing?

Thanks a lot,
Carol

Re: orange light flashing on rp5470 server

Viewing the servers error log would clear the attention light. If you aren't sure what any errors mean, post them here or contact support if you have it.

Hope this helps,

Re: orange light flashing on rp5470 server

The 'e' ones would be sufficient to read. These will tell if there is some sort of hardware problem. If you contact HP they will request you to give them the hex number at the base of each message for the same day. From these hex numbers they will be able to diagnose the actual problem.

Re: orange light flashing on rp5470 server

That's the attention or alert for viewing the chassis logs for user that notices h/w problems or irregular reboot or strange actions in the server detected them by itself. on the console, press ctrl+B keys simultaneously and view and check the logs "SL" ->'e'

Easy going at all.
