HP Procurve 5412zl

Hello,

I wonder if someone can help me please.

I have HP Procurve 5412zl network switch on my network and would like to setup some WAN routing. The firmware version on it is K.15.17.0007.

To get this configured, I have been requested to assign an IP address 192.168.98.2 to one of the Ports on my 5412zl switch, so that the MPLS equipment can be plugged into this port. Furthermore, I have been asked to setup some static routes on the switch in order to faciltitate that WAN connection via the MPLS equipment.

To this end, I have logged into the switch (via Telnet) to try to assign an IP Address to a single port, but I keep getting the error message 'Invalid Input' when I type either Interface J1 192.168.98.2 255.255.255.252 or Interface J1 ip address 192.168.98.2 255.255.255.252 at the config# prompt.

Therefore, I am not sure if this switch allows the direct assignment of an IP address to a single port, though it is a Layer 3 switch. Perhaps, I will have to create a VLAN then add an IP address to the VLAN then assign the single to port to it?

Is anyone able to confirm if I can definitely assign a static IP to a single port on this switch?

Please help, thank you in advance.

Re: HP Procurve 5412zl

Don't exactly remember if HP ProCurve 5400 zl Switch series (which is ProVision operating system based) supports port route mode on any of its ports as Comware operating system based switch series do...probably yes: you would need to create a VLAN first (as explained on that Support Information), if I understood your request correctly a similar subject was already discussed on a Comware biased post here (also there is an old reference about port route mode versus VLAN IP routing here).

It should work...

Re: HP Procurve 5412zl

Hi Parnassus,

Thank you for your response.

I have been able to carry out the configuration by creating a VLAN first, assigning a static IP to the VLAN, then assigning my desired port to the VLAN.

It works like clockwork :)

Thank you, again.
