Migrate from physical separated to VLAN separated network
Hi,
I want to migrate from two physically seperated networks (students and staff) to one physical infrastructure that is seperated through VLANs. I am able to just connect the two infrastructures together, but this causes failures and risk of exposure of staff data to students.
The current switches do not have a VLAN configuration, so all ports are in VLAN 1 (Default_VLAN).
Is it possible to link one of the staff switches to a port on a 3500 that is untagged in VLAN 1100 (STAFF) and similtanously link a student switch to a port on the same 3500 that is untagged in VLAN2000 (STUDENT)?
I tried this, but the network stopped responding.

Re: Migrate from physical separated to VLAN separated network
One question.... Both lans (Staff & Student) have the same addressing?
Anyway I think the problem is that both lans (Staff & Student) have the same VLAN (VLAN 1 (Default_VLAN)) on respective switchs and this situation create a conflict whe you connect them to 3500's Switch.
And, it's important, that you configured the VLANs on all the switchs. For example:
3500 Switch (Core): You need to configure VLANS 1100 and 2000
Switch (Students): You need to configure VLAN2000
Switch (Staff): You need to configure VLAN1100
Greetings...
