300 Gb hard drive in EVA 3000

Hi guys,

I'm new to the SAN technologies, and I got a couple of questions:

Here my SAN configuration:

hp Storage Works EVA3000
M3220 Controller Shelf
2 x HSV100 controllers
4 x M5214 Disk shelf
VCSVersion 3.010
44 x 72 GB disks

Here are my questions:
1- I need to add some disk in the current shelves, there are currently 10 free slots, I need to add about 700Gb of disk space. What is the maximum disk drive capacity should I use in my M5214??? 72 GB, 146 GB, 300 GB?? I would like not to use all the free slot if possible...

2- On another hand, I need to add another 3 TB to the EVA 3000, for another project, and I would like to know if I can add a M5314 disk shlef with 10 x 300 GB Hard disks to the current configuration that I have????

Thanks
Jonathan

Re: 300 Gb hard drive in EVA 3000

1) max. is 300GB SCSI 10k, all are supported (72, 146, 300 and 250 FATA).
If it is possible you should not mix disks with different capacity (but you can).
you can also create new disk group from 146GB or 300GB disks.

2) 4 shelves is max. per EVA3000.

It is good idea to upgrade VCS - 3.010 is not supported from few months.

If you have 44 disks, you have 12 not 10 free slots available (max is 4 x 14 = 56)

Re: 300 Gb hard drive in EVA 3000

Jonathan,

VCS 3.010 does not support 300 GigaByte disks. From the documentation I have it looks like you need VCS 3.020 at minimum (3.025 is current).

I am not aware that certain disk drives do not fit into a specific model of disk drive enclosure, but your EVA-3000 C24D has already reached the maximum number, so you cannot add another M5x14.
