brocade talk accross different firmware versions

I have a fabric with 8 brocade switches.

6 of the switches are on version 4 FW
2 are on version 5 fw

i have an eva8k on XCS 5.1 on the Brocade fw 4

i am upgrading the xcs to version 611.

after the upgrade i plan to move the eva to the brocades with firmware 5 as this is compatable.

do the hosts that connect to the eva thru the older version of brocade fw, need to be moved to the brocades with version 5 ? or they will work fine accross the two brocade firmware versions.

Will EV8000 XCS6111 connected to brocade Firmware 5
talk to :
hosts connected to brocade switch with version 4 firmware.

thank you

Re: brocade talk accross different firmware versions

Hi,

The hosts that are connected to the v4 firmware switches should still talk OK to the EVA - ensure though that the firmware on all the switches is up to date.

One thing that will effect things is whether the zoning you have configured in the fabric is still valid after the EVA has been moved.

For example if you are using WWN based zoning, then you shouldn't need to change anything. However if you are using port based zoning, then you will need to update the relevant zones for the EVA ports.

Hope this helps,

For Your Information:

Looking through the current list of Brocade switches and HP Support's recommended/minimum firmware versions, I do not see ANY that are still supported with V4 firmware.
Note that some of the MUCH OLDER switches are supported with 2.6.2d/2.6.2c or 3.2.1c/3.2.1b.

Check whether the zoning is WWN based then you dont need to change anything. If upgrade the switch some commands parameter will be different
