MSA30 EMU Failure
I have a new mission critical system in test consisting of 1 x MSA1000 and 2 x MSA30 enclosures with all the necessary redundant components to ensure the highest possible uptime (so I thought). After building and configuring as required all was working fine until we tested starting the system up from cold. All the disks in one of the MSA30 enclosures blinked red lights and the display on the active MSA1000 controller stated that a problem with the EMU had occured. The disks on the MSA30 were unavailble - making the whole system unusable. The EMU was replaced and all was fine again. To me this makes the EMU a single point of failure. Questions:
1. Can redundant EMUs be installed in the MSA1000/MSA30.
2. Can MSA1000/MSA30 be configured so that failure of the EMU does not cause the enclosure to be unavailable.

Re: MSA30 EMU Failure

There are a few other single points of failure. EMU, SCSI I/O module, SCSI cables.
You can get creative with your configuration, mirror both shelves this will eliminate the emu.
