Secure path agent not seeing storage controller

I have just installed a SAN with an MSA1000 with 2 controllers and 5 HP DL380's G3 servers each with 2 FCA-HBA's. The servers are running Win2k spk4. Secure path for windows (workgroup) v4c has been installed and is working fine on 4 of the servers. On any one of these servers I can run the SPMGR DISPLAY command and see the storage controller and any active paths. The 5th server has an identical setup to the other 4 servers. This server can see any logical disks presented to it and I can confirm that both HBA's are registering ok in the 2 switches. The problem I have on this server is with the secure path software. If I complete the SPMGR DISPLAY it does not display any storage controller information. I have made sure that the firmware of the HBA's have been updated. I have also updated their drivers and upgraded the secure path agent software to the latest version but without success. Has anyone come across this problem before ?

What does "spmgr display -u" tell you? Does the system (via the SCSI Controllers applet) see your tape luns hanging off you r HBAs?

Re: Secure path agent not seeing storage controller

Hi
I can confirm that I've come across this before and fixed it by reloading the HBA drivers from the support cd as opposed to downloading from the web.
However, it has happened again and this time no number of driver re-installs has resolved it, so at the moment I'm as stuck as you!
Have you found a fix for it yet?

Re: Secure path agent not seeing storage controller

just been playing around with this a bit more and noticed the securepathagent.ini file didn't have an entry for the subsystem ID. I justed edited the file to add this and a couple of other lines that were missing and rebooted. All sorted.
Might be what's needed for your problem.

I'll editing the .ini file and get back to you. Sounds promising.

Re: Secure path agent not seeing storage controller

I have examined the securepathagent.ini file from a number of working servers and the problem server and they all have the same settings:

Global Auto Failback: 0
Global Path Verification: 1
Global Load Distribution: 0

Is this what I should be seeing?

Re: Secure path agent not seeing storage controller

Hmmm.....
Thats all I got on my problem server, but my working server had the following:

Global Auto Failback: 0
Global Path Verification: 1
Global Load Distribution: 0
Subsystem ID: 50001fe10000a6a0 (yours will be different)
Load Distribution: 0
Auto Failback: 0
Path Verification: 1

Now, I assume the other lines were because it was also running the SP Manager, but I added them anyway and it sorted out my problem all the same.

Re: Secure path agent not seeing storage controller

I am unfortunately not on-site to make modifications quickly. I have sent instructions to complete an 'spmgr display' command on a working server which will display the system id. This system id entry will then be added to the .ini file on the problematic server and the server will be rebooted. I won't know until tomorrow if this will work.

I can confirm that the subsystem id is displayed on working servers when I run the spmgr display command so I dont know why its not in the .ini files. I'll double check with the guy on-site to make sure that I've got the right details.

It's good to know that some else out there has had a similar problem. Thanks for all your help so far.

Best regards,
Brendan
